What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Field Intern position at City of Owensboro?
- Excellent opportunity for students in Civil Engineering or related fields
- Summer months
- Typically 40 hours/week
- Starting pay $16.74/hr.
- Collecting initial sidewalk inventory, and/or storm inlet/pipes/structure inventory;
- Taking field measurements for sidewalks,
- Defining curb, gutter, and sidewalk types;
- Inventory sidewalk distresses along each street block and evaluate such distresses by using a predefined rating system;
- Using Data entry into Geographic Information System (GIS) for locations of storm inlets, storm pipes, and storm structures;
- Entering data into applicable computer systems;
- Extract 75 lb. manhole lids using proper lifting equipment;
- Other duties may include collecting street sign inventory by collecting locations of street signs, stop signs, yield signs, warning signs, direction signs, and various other types of signage using Global Positioning System (GPS) surveying equipment, digital camera, and other devices;
- Assisting Engineering and Street departments in a variety of engineering-related functions.
- Minimum age 18
- High school diploma or GED;
- Valid KY driver's license preferred prior to hire;
- Ability to walk long distances (1 mile or more a day in residential, urban, or rural areas) carrying various hand tools;
- Work in outdoor conditions;
- Drive safely;
- Effectively utilize radio/equipment/computer, and
- Perform other demands of job
