The City of Oxnard’s Public Works Department, Facilities Division, is seeking a Senior Facilities Maintenance Worker. The Senior Facilities Maintenance Worker is actively focused on integrating predictive and corrective maintenance capabilities into their daily operations. This holistic approach enables them to anticipate potential issues and promptly address them, ensuring the optimal functionality and appearance of our facilities. These capabilities serve as valuable resources for strategic planning to enhance facility maintenance and performance. Here are the key responsibilities associated with predictive and corrective maintenance.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Corrective Maintenance: Issue Anticipation: Utilize advanced preventive maintenance technologies and methodologies to anticipate potential issues with facility components and systems
Proactive Scheduling: Based on predictive insights, proactively schedule maintenance tasks to prevent unexpected failures or disruptions.
Resource Optimization: Ensure that the right technicians are dispatched with the appropriate tools and materials for each work order request, aligning with predictive maintenance recommendations.
Corrective Maintenance: Issue Resolution: Respond promptly to service requests and urgent issues, taking corrective actions to address immediate facility concerns.
Effective Repairs: Dispatch skilled technicians to assess, diagnose, and repair facility components, systems, or equipment as needed.
Root Cause Analysis: Conduct thorough investigations to identify the root causes of recurring issues, aiming to prevent their reoccurrence.
Monitoring Trade Workers' Performance: Performance Metrics: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and benchmarks to assess the performance of trade workers and technicians.
Training Development Safety: Conduct regular inspections and ensure the highest quality standards are met. Responsible for offering training and professional development opportunities to trade workers to enhance their skills and knowledge. Identifying and preventing potential safety hazards is paramount. In case of accidents, follow HR Risk Management Administrative procedures, offering immediate support and assistance to affected individuals.
Payroll/Classification Title: Maintenance Specialist Senior
SUPERVISION EXERCISED / SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Incumbents serve as a lead worker, assigning work and monitoring work completion or may supervise paraprofessional and support staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures. Receives general supervision on routine items which are performed according to established standards and procedures and receives specific work instruction regarding non-routine matters and deadlines.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This classification is distinguished from the Maintenance Specialist in that it provides specialized, skilled maintenance and serves as a lead worker or first-level supervisor.
WORK SCHEDULE: The normal work week is Monday through Thursday 8:00am to 6:00pm and alternating Fridays 8:00am to 5:00pm. In addition, this position will be required to be perform after hours on call and respond to after hour's emergencies. Depending on the work assignment staff may be assigned to a shift that is outside the standard work hours. In addition, this position may be required to be available to work additional hours in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs. The standard work environment varies depending on assignment but is typically either dependent on each position which is primarily in an office setting or out in the field. The City does not offer hybrid or remote work.

Oversees and performs the most complex and specialized, skilled general maintenance and repair of buildings, streets and/or grounds; oversees site safety and adherence with safety policies, procedures and applicable codes and regulations. May serve as a lead worker, assigning work and monitoring work completion or supervise staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline and termination procedures.
Plans, schedules and coordinates facility repairs, preventative maintenance, materials delivery/transfer and/or landscaping activities for a department or project; performs inspections to determine maintenance requirements or to review quality of completed repairs, maintenance and/or grounds work. May be called for emergency requests.
Serves as a representative and liaison regarding the status, activities and completion of maintenance, repairs and/or landscaping activities; meets with contractors to discuss and review work; addresses issues and concerns of internal and external customers; recommends, communicates and implements issue resolutions.
Reviews, tracks and oversees the maintenance of supplies, materials and equipment inventory; monitors expenditures; recommends and initiates requests for inventory and/or equipment purchases; reviews and processes invoices, work orders and time cards; prepares and maintains records and reports.
Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
The following are minimum qualifications necessary for entry into the classification:
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
Five (5) years of maintenance experience related to assignment
Must be a current City of Oxnard employee in the Public Works department
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid California Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record

UNION MEMBERSHIP: Positions in this classification are represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE).
NOTE: For most positions, the City of Oxnard relies on office automation (Microsoft Office/Google) and web-based enabled tools, therefore candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with on-going work.
Regular and reliable attendance, effective communication skills, and development of effective working relationships are requirements of all positions.
Employees are required to participate in the City's direct deposit plan and are paid on a bi-weekly basis.
This position requires a 12 month probationary period.
