JOB SUMMARY
Performs skilled mechanical work in the service, maintenance, repair, and modification of a wide range of golf maintenance vehicles, heavy machinery, and automotive equipment. Work is performed on large and small licensed and non-licensed equipment, small motors, compressors, and related golf property. Work is at the advanced apprentice to journeyman level, with growth on the job expected.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various golf course maintenance equipment, including, diesel, electric and gasoline-powered vehicles, trucks, trenchers, sweepers, rollers, mowers, and other mechanical equipment used in utility work.
- Assists fellow workers with equipment repair and maintenance by prioritizing work, relative to the needs of the golf course.
- Performs preventive maintenance as recommended by manufacturers.
- Operates power tools while maintaining, fabricating, and repairing equipment.
- Performs welding, acetylene burning, brazing, and soldering, as required.
- Performs general labor and cleaning related to golf course maintenance equipment.
- Utilizes and respects all maintenance equipment and tools.
- Assists in all shop related duties, including but not limited to inventory, records and related housekeeping items and will perform a wide variety of related responsibilities as required or assigned.
- Keeps accurate, complete, and timely records of repair work performed.
- Maintains a preventive maintenance program within budget on all equipment, and purchases repair parts and replacement supplies.
- Ensures shop and work areas are clean and safe.
- Works out on golf course, mowing, watering, fixing broken water lines, and other duties, as needed and directed by Golf Supervisor.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED; and
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Licenses or Certifications:
- Must possess a valid State driver’s license upon employment.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- May require current state certification or licensing as a pesticide.
Special Requirements:
- May require CDL.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the City of Page and the Golf Department.
- Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in golf course maintenance and construction.
- Knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics.
- Knowledge the theory, care, and operation of internal combustion engines and mowing equipment.
- Knowledge of tools and materials used in golf course construction, landscaping, and irrigation.
- Ability to operate all golf course equipment, including construction equipment.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with co-workers, other City staff and the public.
- Knowledge of the operation and repair of both gasoline and diesel engines.
- Knowledge of the operation and repair of manual transmissions, drive trains, brakes, suspensions, and steering in all golf course equipment.
- Knowledge of hydraulic operations/repairs to pumps, controls, and transmission devices.
- Knowledge of electricity and its components as it is related to vehicles and machinery.
- Knowledge of and the ability to learn about occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to comprehend repair manuals and written or oral instructions for repair work performed.
- Ability to maintain accurate, complete, and timely records for repair work performed.
- Ability to work as a team member and to organize and lead staff as a team.
- Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the functions of the position.
- Ability to work in a variety of adverse weather conditions, including heat, cold, precipitation, and wind.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
