MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
PLEASE NOTE: The intent is to fill the current vacancy as a Building Inspector - I. Applications with qualifications for Building Inspector - Provisional may be considered.
***Building Inspector I - $56,501 Minimum Annual Salary
Graduation from high school, and four (4) years’ verifiable experience in residential and/or commercial building construction work. Must possess a valid Florida’s Driver’s License and have and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Required Licenses:
Must have a Florida Standard Building Inspector License.
***Building Inspector - Provisional - $51,248 Minimum Annual Salary
Graduation from high school, and four (4) years’ verifiable experience in residential and/or commercial building construction work. ICC Building Inspector Certificate will also suffice to enter Internship Program as a Provisional Building Inspector. Must possess a valid Florida’s Driver’s License and have and maintain an acceptable driving record.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Required Licenses:
Must have the ability to apply for and get a Provisional Building Inspector license upon hire.
Must have the ability to get a Standard Building Inspector License within 24 months of hire
EMERGENCY DECLARATION STATUS
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, performs skilled inspection work in securing compliance with established codes governing building trade. Work involves inspecting a variety of Building installations for materials and safety precautions; interpretation, application and enforcement of rules and regulations relating to the construction of new buildings, the repair or alteration of existing buildings or structures; and interpretation, application and enforcement of rules and regulations for new and existing buildings and structures. Employee must interpret plans and specifications for proposed installation to ensure the codes and ordinances have been followed but must exercise independent judgment in applying these standards to a variety of work situations. May be required to perform inspections of existing construction for violations of adopted codes on behalf of Code Compliance, as well as attend and testify at Code Compliance Board Meetings. Work may also involve responding to man-made or natural disasters to assist in recovery efforts. Reports to the Senior Building Inspector.

This position is covered under the NAGE White Collective Bargaining Agreement
Health Insurance: Health care plan options include HDHP, OAPIN and OAP through Cigna.
Dental Insurance: Dental coverage is offered in three plans that include DHMO & PPO High/Low plans.
Vision Insurance: Vision coverage includes an annual eye exam, frames and lenses or contact lenses in lieu of eyeglasses.
Life Insurance: The City of Palm Bay provides each employee with life insurance in the amount of one time their annual base salary at no cost. Additional coverage is available at the employee's cost up to the Guaranteed Issue amount of $250,000.
Dependent/Spouse Life Insurance: The City of Palm Bay provides each employee with dependent/spouse life insurance in the amount of $5,000 per dependent at no cost. Additional coverage is available at the employee's cost.
Short Term Disability: Coverage pays 66 2/3% of employee's annual base salary during a short-term disability period not to exceed 26 weeks.
Long Term Disability: Coverage pays 66 2/3% of employee's salary at time of disability after a 180 consecutive day waiting period.
Defined Contribution Retirement Plan: City contributes a base of 3%. Employees may contribute up to 6% and the City will match the employees contribution.
Holidays: 10 holidays, 1 birthday holiday and 1 anniversary holiday.
Paid Leave: Accrue 96 hours of vacation per year, accrued hours increase after 10 years of service based on years of service. Accrue 96 hours of sick leave per year.
Tuition Reimbursement: Upon completion of the initial probationary period, employees are eligible for tuition and book reimbursement for college level courses for Associate's, Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. (Currently frozen due to budget)
Salary : $51,248 - $56,501
