Summary
This position has specific assigned responsibilities that are essential to the operation of the Recreation Department. This position provides safe transportation service operating a minibus or 15 passenger van, predominantly for after school or camp youth and occasionally for adult recreation trips and other programs as required. This regular part-time position will average between 24-28 hours a week, mostly afternoons, except during camps when the schedule will be morning into the afternoon. This position might include occasional evenings and weekends that are scheduled well in advance. A ride-aide will accompany and assist the driver on all youth trips.
When not transporting passengers, this position will also be responsible for providing departmental support, such as completing assignments that help ensure the efficient and effective operation of the department including performing courier duties as needed. Additionally, this position is responsible for routine cleaning, maintenance scheduling, and fueling of the fleet, when not driving.

Essential Function Duties and Responsibilities

- Responsible for the complete execution of assigned responsibilities within the framework of Department vision, goals, and Department/City policy and procedure.
- Operates City Vehicles for transportation, for recreational trips and programs along with a ride-aide (City Employee).
- Drive passenger vehicles and busses to transport program participants and/or pick up goods/supplies.
- Drives bus or other passenger vehicle to transport passengers over designated routes; performs driving functions safely and efficiently in various weather conditions.
- Follows established safety procedures and traffic laws, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety/welfare of employees, passengers, and other individuals; reports any incidents, accidents, problems, or unusual situations.
- Completes/maintains logs and records of trips, mileage, fuel, passengers, inspections and other activities.
- Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, passengers, the public and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
- Monitors traffic conditions surrounding bus to identify obstructions, pedestrians or unsafe traffic conditions.
- Maintains cleanliness of the vehicle as well as vehicle maintenance.
- Recognizes concerns and formulates solutions to address the situation.
- Requires recognition with emergency situations and ability to take action based upon position responsibility and training.
- Responsible for communicating positively and effectively with peers, managers, patrons, and the public through verbal interactions and written correspondence.
- Responsible for applying training to assignments and continually seeking out information to gain knowledge to better serve the community.
- Responsible for running errands to pick up or drop off items for business operations.
- Responsible for routine cleaning, maintenance scheduling, and fueling of the fleet
- Performs any other related duties as requested or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Has a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Has minimum (6) months previous experience driving passenger vehicle and/or training.
- Ability to operate a City Vehicle; requiring a CDL Class “C” license with passenger endorsement and must have a State of Florida license with a good driving record.
- Must hold a current First Aid and CPR certification or have the ability to obtain certification within the first thirty days of employment.
- Is at least eighteen (18) years of age.
Special Qualifications/Preferences
- 40 Hour Introductory Training Requirement for Childcare Workers.
