What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crew Chief – Facilities position at City of Palm Beach Gardens?
This position performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the construction, repair, operation and maintenance of City facilities and properties.
- Directs and operates a variety of light equipment including trucks, dump trucks and power tools of all types in the maintenance of buildings and grounds and work related to building construction
- Assists with the direction of the Facilities Maintenance section daily activities
- Performs various inspections of light equipment to determine the most cost-effective means of operation
- Assists with development of short and long-range plans, as well as goals, objectives, and performance measurements for the unit.
- Gathers, interprets and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations
- Assists in the preparation of bid specifications for equipment, maintenance work, and special projects
- Responsible for the coordination, inspection, and record keeping of various City contracts, such as providing access to City facilities, escorting when necessary, and electronic filing of inspection reports
- Assists with the administration of the facilities maintenance budget in conformance with adopted policies and procedures
- Oversees and maintains records, prepares reports and other specialized maintenance records of equipment and mechanical equipment, contracts, and inspections
- Performs general maintenance and repairs of City facilities
- Instructs staff in the clean and efficient maintenance of work areas
- Ensures safe and efficient working order of equipment
- Performs regular inspections of facilities equipment
- Ensures the preventive maintenance program is completed on schedule
- Plans and evaluates preventive maintenance schedules for assigned facilities and special projects
- Evaluates the status of mechanical equipment and schedules needed repairs
- Operates a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, electric, and air driven tools
- Purchases equipment, parts, and supplies used for facility maintenance/special projects
- Tracks spending on purchasing card, reconciles monthly statements, and monitors purchase order balances.
- Trains staff on procedures, operation of equipment, and standard protocols as necessary
- Communicates effectively with all staff, both verbally and in writing, on a daily basis
- Enforces City rules and regulations
- Assists in the preparation of estimates of labor, material, and equipment needs, upon request
- Works within budgetary limitations
- Performs duties as assigned during emergency response conditions
- Performs any other related duties as required or assigned
- Prepares performance evaluations for assigned employees and presents the evaluation to the employee with necessary counseling or direction as needed.
- Performs payroll functions, verifies work times, reviews leave time, and finalizes timecards for the assigned unit.
- Efficiently and effectively develops work schedules for entire unit based on priority.
- Documents daily work actions and hours in work order software; monitors labor hours for subordinates to ensure accuracy
- Reviews work orders daily assigned to the unit, creates schedules, and assigns employees for same
- Position requires after hour response. Response can be through telephonic verbal consultation or may require a physical response to a city facility as needed.
- Performs any other related duties as required or assigned and responds to emergency calls as needed.
- Performs duties as assigned during emergency response conditions
- High School Diploma or equivalent, and
- Considerable experience in repair and maintenance work and operation of light equipment, and
- Lead or supervisory experience preferred, or
- Any related combination of education, training, and experience
- Valid State of Florida Driver's License with a good driving record
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Certification may be required.
