Examples of Duties
- Collects trash from trash receptacles.
- Prepares classrooms, meeting rooms, pavilions, and other sites for events and programs.
- Cleans and removes trash during sports tournaments.
- Cleans and restocks restrooms and other storage facilities.
- Cleans gymnasium furniture and equipment; realigns bleachers; dust mops floors; collects and removes trash.
- Cleans and washes interior and exterior walls and windows, mirrors, and doors.
- Assists in the cleaning of facilities during events.
- Performs schedule floor cleaning and maintenance.
- Uses cleaning chemicals in accordance with guidelines.
- Assists with the unloading and stocking of cleaning supplies.
- Dusts and polishes furniture; cleans cabinets, desks, bookcases, etc.
- Checks assigned buildings and facilities for security.
- Drives to different designated locations to fulfill duties.
- Performs related duties.
Typical Qualifications
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Florida driver’s license with safe driving record.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of related grounds and custodial maintenance duties. The number of facilities to be maintained contributes to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to clean and maintain department buildings and grounds. Successful performance contributes to the provision of clean and attractive facilities for the general public.
CONTACTS
- Contacts are typically with coworkers, other city employees, vendors, and the general public.
- Contacts are typically to provide services and resolve problems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while intermittently standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, talking, hearing and seeing. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects up to 50 pounds, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
- The work is typically performed in department buildings and outdoors, occasionally in extreme heat and cold temperatures or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt and irritating chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
PTO Leave: Leave begins accruing immediately. The schedule varies slighter for Fire Fighters.

less than 5 years: 152 hours
5 to 9 years: 176 hours
10 to 14 years: 200 hours
15 to 19 years: 224 hours
20 years: 248 hours
PTO begins accruing immediately. At the end of the year, any unused annual leave will roll over to the next year. Time will be accrued bi-weekly and shown on each paycheck.
RETIREMENT: General employees are fully vested after 10 years of employment. Employees can become partially vested at five (5) years of service. Partial vesting at five (5) years is 50%, six (6) years 60%, seven (7) years 70%, eight (8) years 80%, and nine (9) years 90%. General Employees are eligible for normal retirement upon the earlier of reaching age 55 and the completion of 10 years of credited service or reaching age 50 and the completion of 20 years of credited service. The amount of normal retirement benefit is based on your credited service and average final compensation. See General Employees’ Pension Plan Summary for more details.
