Description
This is a supervisory position assisting on deck with the maintenance of the pool’s filtration system, supervising lifeguards, and managing guests. Responsibilities include assisting in the daily operation and maintenance of the Aquatic Center while maintaining an environment healthy and safe for public use. Assists in the coordination of all lifeguards as assigned.
Examples of Duties

Inspects facility and reports and/or addresses unsafe conditions.
Consistently enforces the rules, regulations, policies and procedures to all guests, groups, organizations and employees. Ensures all safety measures are observed. - Assists in maintaining the cleanliness and proper function of the facility.
- Serves as a lifeguard by performing lifeguarding duties or act as lifeguard trainer when needed. Ensures the safety of guests by observing swimmers.
- Trains and receives proper Red Cross Lifeguard certifications.
- Cleans grounds, locker rooms, and office.
- Provides quality customer service. Provides patrons with information and assistance.
- Completes accurate incident and accident reports.
- Maintains the health and safety of all users of the facilities and all employees.
- May perform professional rescuer duties as needed including CPR, First Aid, and Advanced rescues.
- May assist in the delivery of aquatic programs and special events.
- May open facility, close facility, and perform other duties as assigned in the absence of the supervisor.
- Complies with City and departmental rules, policies and procedures.
- Performs related duties.
Typical Qualifications
- Possession of valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding and Lifeguard Management certifications at the time of employment.
- Successfully pass a required swim test.
- Any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job may be considered.

The Aquatics Specialist assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
The Head Guard may assign general work instructions or as directed by the Aquatic Specialist or Aquatics Manager.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures, Red Cross guidelines, and the employee handbook. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of related lifeguarding duties. The need to respond to emergency incidents contributes to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to perform lifeguarding duties at a public pool. Success in this position contributes to the safety of patrons.
Contacts are typically with co-workers and members of the general public.
- Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, or to resolve problems.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, climb, crawl, reach, grasp, push, pull, repeatedly twist the upper body, talk, hear, see and demonstrate manual dexterity. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell. The employee must demonstrate the ability to remain calm during routine and stressful conditions.
- The work is typically performed in an outdoor aquatic facility. The employee is exposed to sun, water, noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals. Work may be performed outdoors in hot, cold or inclement weather. Work may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
Supervises schedules for all pool personnel to ensure duties are performed as assigned by the Aquatics Specialist. Checks that pool staff are in proper attire. Supervises activities of patrons in and around the facility on a daily basis.

PTO Leave: Leave begins accruing immediately. The schedule varies slighter for Fire Fighters.

PTO begins accruing immediately. At the end of the year, any unused annual leave will roll over to the next year. Time will be accrued bi-weekly and shown on each paycheck.
RETIREMENT: General employees are fully vested after 10 years of employment. Employees can become partially vested at five (5) years of service. Partial vesting at five (5) years is 50%, six (6) years 60%, seven (7) years 70%, eight (8) years 80%, and nine (9) years 90%. General Employees are eligible for normal retirement upon the earlier of reaching age 55 and the completion of 10 years of credited service or reaching age 50 and the completion of 20 years of credited service.
