The Recreation Assistant is responsible for a variety of areas in the Parks & Recreation Department. This position will assist staff with programs, facility management, admissions, registrations, concession operations, answering the telephone, providing public information, monitoring membership access, collecting entry fees, scheduling, and checking out equipment.  The position documents daily usage at facilities and reports any problems to Supervisor. Work is performed under the Supervisors in the Parks & Recreation Department. 
 
This position may be required to work regularly during the weekends, holidays, and nights as schedules dictate.In addition to the essential duties and responsibilities, other tasks may be assigned.
 
Collect daily entry fees and operate computerized cash registers.
 
Responsible for handling large amounts of cash transactions/making accurate deposits.
 
Assist with scheduling of activities, registration, ticket sales and special events.
 
Provide public with information regarding programs.
 
Responsible for inspection and daily cleaning of facilities.
 
Responsible for written reports.

Clean concession equipment, sinks, counters, benches, tables, restrooms, etc.
 
Must be able to assist Supervisors with event set ups.

To assist Supervisors & Coordinators with Youth & Adult Sports/Recreation programs.

To assist Supervisors & Coordinators with Special Events.

Other related duties as required.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma, vocational school, or general education degree (GED) is preferred but not required. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: APPLICANT MUST BE AT LEAST 15 YEARS OF AGE AT TIME OF EMPLOYMENT.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must have the ability to learn cash register/computer functions and accountability procedures; Must be able to keep records and make reports; Must have the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with all activity participants; Must be attentive and provide clear verbal communication; Must have good judgment; Must have physical ability to assist with event set ups and to move/lift tables and chairs; Should have basic knowledge of recreational programs, concessions, facilities and/or equipment; Ability to work with people of all age groups. 
 
Must be dependable, must maintain effective relationships with Parks and Recreation supervisors, other city staff.  May be required to work regularly during weekends, holidays, and nights. May be scheduled to work during inclement weather.

The employee may frequently lift and move from 10 to 50 pounds.  Specific vision requirements related to this job are close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is not normally subjected to any special or extraordinary environmental conditions, other than those normally found in an office environment. Occasionally work may be performed outdoors, and the employee may encounter inclement weather, extreme heat or cold, work near moving mechanical parts, and could be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and the risk of electrical shock.  The noise level for this environment is usually moderate.
