MAJOR FUNCTIONS
Under the guidance and leadership of the Public Works Director, this is skilled work performing a variety of maintenance, construction, repair and location tasks within the Underground Utilities Division. This position facilitates the daily work schedule. Work is performed in accordance with established policies and procedures and decisions are made within the scope of specific assignments. Assignments are received in oral and written form and work is subject to frequent review and inspection by a Foreman.
This is an emergency essential position that requires performance of emergency actions to prepare, repair and recover the City before, during, and after any adverse storm events (hurricane, tornado, flood, ice storm, winter storms, tropical storm, etc.) or other conditions (natural or manmade).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

- May direct one or more team members and participates in the daily work routine.
- Performs all tasks necessary for the water and sewer systems.
Organizes work orders and the daily work schedule to maximize work performance.
Maintains a safe work environment.
Assists Foreman with day-to-day work assignments.
Operates and maintains chlorinators daily as assigned.
Operates line stopping and tapping equipment.
May be required to take weekend callout as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability and desire to comply with all City safety policies and programs in the performance of their work to include, but not limited to, vehicles, equipment, tools and facilities.
Ability to work from blueprints, rough sketches and maps.
Ability to understand, follow and communicate in writing in an effective, cooperative and team focused manner.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor (digging, lifting etc..) for extended periods, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
Knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools of one or more of the masonry and pavement trades.
Ability to recognize safety hazards in the work involved and take precautionary methods to protect self and others.
Basic knowledge of DOT specifications and other regulations pertaining to this trade.
Ability to plan, organize and train one or more fellow team members.
Ability to understand and transmit oral and written instructions in an effective and professional manner.
Skilled in the use and care of pertinent tools and equipment.
Ability to accurately maintain and create records and reports.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Three (3) years experience working with the repair and maintenance of water distribution and sewer transmission lines.
Valid driver's license.
Ability to obtain a valid Water Distribution System Operator Level III license in accordance with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection regulations.
A comparable amount of training and / or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
