What are the responsibilities and job description for the Land Surveyor position at City of Parkersburg?
Reports Directly to the City Engineer.
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for professional surveying work in the field and office. Requires the exercise of considerable discretion and independent judgement.
RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1) Performs professional field surveying functions including operating survey instruments and taking survey notes, setting stakes and monuments, training less experienced staff in field survey techniques.
2) Plans, organizes and directs work of survey party to determine precise location and measurement of points, elevations, lines, areas and contours for construction, mapmaking, land division , titles and other purposes;
3) Researches previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence and other records to obtain data needed for surveys;
4) Determines methods and procedures for establishing or re-establishing survey control;
5) Advises Engineering Division and other City departments on matters related to surveying, subdivision platting, right-of-way location, and mapping;
6) Prepares legal descriptions and plats for property conveyance, rights-of-way, easements, zoning changes, and annexations;
7) Maintains and determines specifications for survey equipment;
8) Keeps accurate notes, records and sketches to describe and certify work performed;
9) Performs other related duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from and accredited college or university with an Associate’s degree in surveying or closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
Licensed by the State of West Virginia as a Professional Surveyor. Two (2) years responsible experience in field and office engineering support work, including some experience in the design of engineering projects.
Possession of a valid driver’s license
