What you'll be doing:
This position is responsible for routine work involving planning, overseeing, and implementing recreation programs for the City. An employee in this classification is responsible for supervising groups of children, teens, and seniors as well as other recreation staff. The incumbent requires initiative and independent judgment in accomplishing assignments.Essential Job Functions
- Plans, organizes, and leads a wide variety of recreational and leisure services activities for participants of all age groups.
- Oversees programming implemented by recreation staff to ensure it remains within budget.
- Plans and conducts assigned activities for the Summer Recreation Camp Program and After School Program.
- Oversees programming for seniors and programs provided by outside contractors.
- Assists in the acquisition and completion of registration forms for recreation programs offered by the City.
- Performs participant registration for recreational activities and collects fees for programs and activities.
- Prepare newsletters, flyers, posters and other materials to promote programs to increase community awareness and individual participation.
- Maintains records and accounts of attendance, financial charges, receipts, accident, and incident reports.
- Performs reporting and record keeping duties for grant related activities in the Parks & Recreation department.
- Supervises and trains staff and volunteers when necessary.
- Takes photographs of recreational activities for the City website.
- Assists with department and Citywide special events.
- Assists with front desk support.
- Responsible for grant requirements and reports for youth and senior programs.
- Prepares all camp/program documents including handbook and registration forms.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Associate's Degree or completion of a minimum of 60 college credits.
- Three (3) years of related work experience.
- Must have a valid CPR, First Aid, and AED certification or the ability to obtain these certifications within six (6) months.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must possess FEMA 100, 200, and 700 certifications, or the ability to obtain within the first six (6) months of employment.
- Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in summer recreation programs.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation and group activities.
- Knowledge of proper telephone etiquette and procedures.
- Knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook.
- Skill in the use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
- Skill in using computers for data entry.
- Skill in using computers for word processing and accounting purposes.
- Ability to understand and carry out instructions and to complete work assignment.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Ability to plan and implement classes, various activities, and special events.
- Ability to maintain complex records and prepare technical reports.
- Ability to work a digital camera.
- Ability to maintain discipline and encourage compliance with safety rules and regulations.
- Ability to perform strenuous labor in all weather conditions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, officials, and the public.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Work environment is typically performed in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.
- The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
- Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, crouching, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, and visual acuity.
