What you'll learn:
As an Aftercare Assistant, you’ll have the opportunity to work with diverse groups in our beautiful Parks. The Aftercare Assistant is an excellent position to begin your career in childcare, providing opportunity for growth and development. You’ll participate in important training including CPR/First Aid Training all while learning:
- Communication and customer services skills
- Managing and redirecting groups of children
- Conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques
- Activity planning
- Safety awareness
What you'll do:
- Responsible for the safety and well-being of each child under their watch.
- Escorts children using different forms of transportation (i.e., walking, bus).
- Ensure all appropriate forms are completed by parent/guardian.
- Ensure parents sign their children in and out with proper identification.
- Understand all emergency procedures.
- Plan crafts, activities, songs, story time and creative play for children.
- Enforce health codes and good hygiene.
- Everyone on duty will take his/her job seriously and perform it conscientiously.
- Additional tasks as directed.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must have Level II background clearance or the ability to obtain clearance upon employment offer.
- Six (6) months of related experience.
- Experience in children's play, arts and crafts and group activities.
- Must have a valid CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications or the ability to obtain these certifications within six (6) months.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to communicate well with participants, parents, other staff, and the general public.
- Ability to exercise initiative, interpret and apply laws, ordinance, rules, regulations, and safety and health standards.
- Ability to attend Child Abuse Awareness Training required.
- Ability to change planned activities in a moment's notice.
- Ability to operate a computer keyboard.
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
- Skill in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Work environment is typically performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity and responsiveness to changes that include goals, priorities, and needs of the organization and position.
- The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
- Must be able to constantly stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, crouching, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, speaking, standing, talking, and walking.
SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION: This position is deemed a safety sensitive position in accordance with Florida State Statute Chapter 112.0455 Drug Free Workplace Act and is subject to pre-employment drug screening.
