The City of Pasadena Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department is seeking creative and dedicated Recreation Site Coordinators who can lead an after school program site. Recreation Site Coordinators establish positive and collaborative relationships with school administration, faculty, cafeteria, and custodial staff as well as parents and students in the program. Current vacancies exist in the After School Adventures Programs. These are part-time positions working up to 19 hours per week.
The ideal candidate for the Recreation Site Coordinator Afterschool Adventures Programs will possess recent experience supervising recreation programs for school-age children and be comfortable providing direction and motivation to program staff, which may include Recreation Leaders, Instructors, volunteers, interns, and coaches. The position is responsible for ensuring that students are well supervised, as well as planning and implementing recreational activities, facilitating special events, upholding behavior expectations, support communication with parents / guardians, and maintaining organized documentation (i.e. accurate attendance records, incident and accident reports).
Afterschool Adventures Program Recreation Site Coordinators must be available Mondays from 12 : 00 pm to 6 : 00 pm and Tuesdays through Fridays, 2 : 00 pm to 6 : 00 pm.

- Promotes, organizes, and supervises the delivery of recreation programs and services at an assigned park, school, or playground.
Plans, schedules, and conducts a variety of exciting and age-appropriate programs and activities for youth.
Develops innovative, creative, and enriching programs and activities for youth.
Provides daily inspection of school grounds and reports problems accordingly; coordinates the maintenance, safety, and / or program needs of the site with the corresponding City department.
Regularly mentors, coaches, trains, delegates, and holds staff accountable for their work.
Manages the program supplies inventory and orders recreation and instructional equipment as needed.
Organizes and conducts special activities or events as assigned.
Engage in creative methods of learning, such as project-based learning, active learning, and storytelling.
Uses a variety of teaching methods, including artistic expression, educational play, and storytelling to introduce participants to the next stage of their development.
Maintains records and submits reports in a timely manner (attendance reports, progress reports, weekly summary reports, timecards, incident reports, accident reports, program planning proposals, and staff evaluations).
Takes necessary precautions to ensure the safety of participants and spectators and renders first-aid as needed.
Reviews and ensures that participants have all proper forms and documents completed.

Qualification Guidelines
Education and Experience
Individuals with four or more years of recent experience in supervising recreation activities / programs for youth will be deemed most qualified.
Selection Process
The selection process may consist of any combination of training and experience evaluation, Subject Matter Expert (SME) review and the most highly qualified candidates may be invited to participate in a written, structured interview, performance examination, and / or departmental selection interview.

There are currently several vacancies in the Afterschool Adventures Program of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future. These positions are part-time up to 19 hours per week.

Effective January 1, 2013, new members to CalPERS or an agency with CALPERS' reciprocity or who have more than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPER (or reciprocal) agency will be subject to the provisions of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) and will receive the 2% @ 62 benefit formula.
Employees who are current members of CalPERS or an agency with CalPERS' reciprocity, or who have less than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPERS (or reciprocal) agency and employment with the City will be enrolled in the 2.5% @ 55 benefit formula.
All employees are required to pay the full employee contribution to CalPERS.
