What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Manager - Water and Power position at City of Pasadena?
The City of Pasadena is approximately ten miles northeast of downtown L.A. at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, with a residential population of 144,000 and a daytime population of 250,000. Pasadena Water & Power Department (PWP) is a community-owned utility supplying water and electricity to Pasadena and nearby areas. The General Manager (GM) reports to the City Manager and is supported by 430 employees and a FY2025 budget exceeding $340 million.
The GM will drive the execution of an ambitious multi-year work plan in progress, focusing on long-term resource management and environmental protection while embracing aggressive environmental goals that reflect the values of Pasadena. Experience in both utilities is desirable but not required; however, the department’s size and significance demand exceptional leadership and people management skills. Any combination of experience and education that ensures acceptable job performance, including five (5) years of progressively complex management experience with water and/or power utilities and a Bachelor’s degree, is required. Sophisticated and current industry knowledge is required. Public sector experience is desirable but not mandatory.
