SALARY: $20.56 - $24.68 Hourly ($42,764.80 - $51,334.40 Annually), depending on qualifications

THE ROLE:
As an Animal Shelter Kennel Tech, you will play a critical role in the care and maintenance of animals brought to the shelter. This includes cleaning and maintaining kennel areas, feeding and caring for the animals, assisting visitors, and ensuring a safe and humane environment for all animals in the facility.
The ideal candidate for this role will have experience in animal care, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a physically demanding environment. You will collaborate with shelter staff and the public to provide excellent animal care and customer service. A background check and drug screen are required upon acceptance of a conditional offer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Clean and maintain the Animal Shelter, including animal cages and kennels.
Rinse, scrub, and disinfect kennels, cages, hallways, and isolation areas.
Clean and disinfect food and water dishes, bedding, and equipment.
Prepare food and feed animals while monitoring their health and well-being.
Identify sick or injured animals and notify staff for necessary veterinary care.
Assist visitors with adoptions and provide information on shelter policies.
Perform accurate data entry into shelter software.
Safely move animals within shelter facilities.
Educate potential adopters on animal traits and requirements.
Operate shelter vehicles for animal transport as required.
Work weekends and holidays as needed.
Perform other animal shelter-related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
(Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job.)
High school diploma or equivalent.
Proficiency in verbal and written communication.
Experience with computer software applications (Microsoft, Outlook, etc.).
Knowledge of proper care and treatment of animals.
Ability to handle and restrain potentially aggressive animals.
Strong customer service skills.
Must be 18 years of age.
Valid Washington State Driver License.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous experience in an animal shelter or veterinary setting.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Certification in animal care or handling is a plus.

SAFETY/WORK CONDITIONS:
Work performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, sometimes in inclement weather.
Must lift and handle animals up to 60 lbs.; ability to restrain animals up to 150 lbs.
Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and handling objects.
Exposure to disinfectants, animal dander, zoonotic diseases, and potentially aggressive animals.
May require a post-offer, pre-employment medical exam and/or drug screen.
