The City of Pasco is seeking an experienced Chief Water Plant Operator to oversee the operation and maintenance of the City’s water treatment facilities. This leadership role is responsible for supervising plant operations, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and fostering a collaborative, forward-thinking team culture.

Position Details:
- Sign-On Incentive: Up to $5,000 for new hires.
- Relocation Assistance: May be available for out-of-area candidates.
- Additional Pay:
- Certification pay of 6% added to base wage.
- On-call compensation of $50/day, plus $3.00/hr on weekdays and $5.00/hr on weekends and holidays.
- Longevity pay starting after five years of service.

THE ROLE:
As the Chief Water Plant Operator, you will oversee the daily operations of water treatment facilities to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant service to the community. You will lead a team of skilled operators, coordinating and conducting training on plant operations, laboratory techniques, and safety protocols.
This position requires monitoring and evaluating plant performance, troubleshooting operational issues, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. You will maintain accurate records, prepare and submit operational reports to state and federal agencies, and collaborate with the Lead Water Plant Operator and other staff to implement process improvements and optimize plant performance.
Additionally, you will play a key role in budget preparation and expenditure monitoring, ensuring efficient use of resources while fostering a forward-thinking and collaborative work environment. This role involves responding to emergencies on a 24-hour basis, including weekends and holidays, to ensure uninterrupted operation of the water treatment facilities. REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.):
- Valid Washington State Water Treatment Plant Operator Level 4 certification upon hire and maintain the license throughout employment.
- Valid Washington State driver’s license.
- Valid First Aid/CPR certificate.
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Four (4) years of experience in a Class III water treatment plant including operations, maintenance, laboratory responsibilities; prior experience in a lead or supervisory role.
- Experience operating advanced water treatment facilities preferred.

- In addition to DRS, employees may also contribute to a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, that offers a pre-tax contribution of 3% from the City

SAFETY/WORK CONDITIONS:
Work is performed inside the water treatment plant and outside.
ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed outside in a variety of weather conditions including temperature that could pose a threat of physical harm, precipitation in all forms, winds and high atmospheric particulate conditions.
HAZARDS: Exposure to physical hazards from extreme conditions while gathering samples, wet slippery work environment, confined spaces, loud noises, operating machinery and electrical systems, sewage, gases, fumes and chemicals.
