THE ROLE:
As a Plans Examiner, you will play a critical role in providing a high level of customer service for residents and customers in regard to plans reviews. The Plans Examiner Performs complex commercial and residential plan reviews for structural and non-structural integrity prior to the issuance of building permits, monitors construction plan timeframes and conformance by performing periodic field inspections. Interprets and applies applicable codes and regulations in the evaluation of proposals for new materials and reviews plan applications. May perform engineering analysis of structural design.
The ideal candidate for this role will have 3 years of experience in plans examining, permitting, or building inspection, interpersonal and critical thinking skills, and the ability to foster a culture based on integrity and respect. You will collaborate with building staff and permitting staff to review plans for residents and developers of the City of Pasco. A background check is required upon acceptance of a conditional offer.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.):
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Three (3) years' experience in plans examining, permitting, or building inspection, including one (1) year experience in building construction.
- ICC or similar certification as a plans examiner.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture or closely related field, preferred.
- Previous experience in local government.

SAFETY/WORK CONDITIONS:
Duties are performed in an office environment while stationed at a desk.
PHYSICAL: Frequently moves construction plans and other equipment weighing up to 20 pounds throughout the office and between meetings.
