THE ROLE:As a Wastewater Lab Technician, you will play a critical role in performing laboratory analysis to meet various local, state, and federal permits (NPDES, State Discharge Permits) and treatment plant process control requirements. You will ensure the City's treatment plant laboratory meets accreditation and compliance standards and assist in training personnel on laboratory operations and best practices.
The ideal candidate for this role will have at least two (2) years of experience in a related field, knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operations and laboratory procedures, and the ability to foster a culture based on integrity and respect. You will collaborate with the Environmental Compliance Manager and other departments to maintain compliance and operational efficiency. A background check, drug screen, and verification of certifications are required upon acceptance of a conditional offer.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:(Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job.)
Education: High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by one (1) year of college-level coursework in chemistry or a related science field.
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years in a related field (e.g., laboratory work, wastewater plant operations, chemistry, biology, or environmental sciences).
Certifications & Licenses:
Valid Washington State driver’s license.
Valid First Aid/CPR certification.
Washington State Group I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification (preferred).
Additional education in chemistry, environmental science, or wastewater treatment.
Experience with laboratory information management software.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Work is primarily performed in the wastewater treatment plant laboratory, with occasional fieldwork.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, pulling, and crouching for long periods.
Exposure to hazards including extreme conditions, confined spaces, loud noises, operating machinery, electrical systems, raw sewage, gases, fumes, and chemicals.
Must adhere to health and safety regulations and proper handling of hazardous materials.
