Lateral officers are eligible for a hiring incentive of up to $20,000 , a housing assistance loan of up to $60,000 , a moving allowance of up to $10,000 , additional vacation leave, and vacation accrual rate enhancement!
This recruitment is for lateral police officers. To be considered a lateral officer, candidates must meet ALL of the following conditions :
- Be currently employed as a peace officer by a state police agency at the time of application
- Have at least two years of experience, including one year of patrol officer experience with a municipality, Sheriff's Office, or equivalent
- Posses a California POST Basic Certificate or a Basic Course Waiver at the time a conditional offer of employment to the position of police officer.
Note : Officers that meet the first two criteria, but do not meet the third, may be eligible to be hired as a and receive all of the applicable wages and benefits associated with that position, including sponsorship through a POST requalification course.

This position requires rotating shift assignments and is subject to mandatory overtime in accordance with maintaining a fully operational 24-hour facility. Will be required to work weekends, holidays and / or irregular hours.
Education and Experience
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have successfully completed a POST Basic Academy prior to appointment.
Possession of an Intermediate and Advanced POST certificate and 60 semester units or equivalent from an accredited college or university are all highly desirable. Four years of active military duty service may be substituted for 30 college units.

Health Insurance :
Employees who opt out of health coverage may be eligible for a payment of $300 / month
Classic Tier 1 members participate in a formula of 3% at 50, with the employee paying an 9% member contribution, plus a 5% cost sharing contribution, for a total of 14%. The highest year is used for final compensation calculation.
Life Insurance : Employee only coverage of $40,000 paid by the City
Employee Assistance Program (EAP) : The City pays the full premium for employee and family
Flexible Spending Account : Allows you to pay for dependent care and un-reimbursed medical expenses on a pre-tax basis.
Bilingual Pay : Spanish verbal skills : $100 per month; Spanish written skills : $25 per month
Uniform Allowance : $1,200 per year
Certification Pay : 2.5% of base pay for an Intermediate POST Certificate and 1% for an Advanced POST certificate for a combined total of 3.5%
Education Reimbursement : Reimbursement up to $3,000 per fiscal year for educational costs directly related to occupational field or for promotion within City service
Retiree Health Reimbursement : Up to $500 per month reimbursement of health premiums for employees who retire from the City with at least 20 years of service until the age of 65.
