Job Summary:
This position plays a critical role in protecting our community from fire hazards by conducting regular inspections, enforcing fire codes, and educating the public about fire safety practices.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect new and existing buildings, sprinkler systems, and alarm systems to ensure compliance with fire codes and regulations
- Investigate complaints of fire/life safety hazards and provide recommendations for corrective action
- Develop and implement public fire safety education programs to promote awareness and prevent fires
- Collaborate with other departments and agencies to share resources and expertise
- Maintain accurate records and files on program activities
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized training equivalent to an Associate's Degree in Fire Science, construction inspection, code enforcement, or related field
- Successful completion of Fire Service Training and Educational Systems certification program classes provided by the California Office of the State Fire Marshal
- Three years of progressively responsible experience dealing with the public in an inspection and/or enforcement role within a fire or building department
- Valid California Class C driver's license
