Lifeguard

Lifeguards are required to actively monitor, survey, and control activity at the Veteran’s Memorial Park pool facility; enforce regulations or policies; and perform first aid and lifesaving activities when necessary. Lifeguards respond to water related emergencies as well as accidents, injuries, or other types of emergencies affecting the public safety at the pool; and are responsible for the general overall safety of the waterfront area to which they are assigned. Rate of pay is $20 / hour. Candidate will be reimbursed one-half of the certification cost (up to $175), after completing the summer season with the City of Pawtucket, as outlined in a supplemental agreement.

Essential Job Functions:

· Perform first aid and lifesaving activities when necessary. Lifeguards respond to water related emergencies as well as accidents, injuries, or other types of emergencies affecting the public safety at the pool; and are responsible for the general overall safety of the waterfront area to which they are assigned.

· Actively monitor, survey, and control activity at the Veteran’s Memorial Park pool facility.

· Enforce regulations or policies for the safety of pool patrons

· Conduct the chemical reading of the pool and logging accordingly.

· Ensure that all safety lifesaving items are available and attainable in their proper placement during the shift, and that all items are properly stored at the end of the day.

· Perform minor maintenance duties including, but not limited to, skimming the pool water and cleaning filter strainers daily

· Additional duties at Pool Manager’s discretion

Qualifications:

· Current American Red Cross Certification for Lifesaving / First Aid / CPR / AED required (must upload copy of current certification when applying)

· Aged 16 years of age or older

· Excellent customer service skills. Reliable, friendly, and able to work directly with the public, especially children

· Ability to work 20-36 scheduled hours per week. Pool is open 7 days per week between June 28 – August 17, 2025, and hours of operation range between 10 AM and 6 PM, including weekends.

· Lifeguards must provide their own guard attire. Staff tee shirts are provided for all staff.
