Weekend Watch / Ice Control Person

SUMMARY

Performs routine work in the safeguarding of buildings and public property against damage, loss, and theft. Also responsible for managing ice control during inclement weather. The schedule for this position is as follows:

Weekend Watchperson: Thursday, Friday Saturday and Sunday: 2 PM to Midnight

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

· Making regular rounds inside and outside buildings and around grounds to watch for prowlers, fires, lighting deficiencies or other irregularities

· Patrolling municipal areas to see that unauthorized persons do not enter

· Watching for fires in dumping areas

· Barricading and watching for problems on pot holes and depressions in roads

· Preparing various reports

· Assisting Police and Fire departments when needed

· Performing routine checks of city streets for unlit streetlights

· Performing related work as required

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); with some experience as a watchman. Must have a working knowledge of buildings and grounds patrolled as well as the rules and regulations governing admission to and departure from the buildings or grounds areas. Must be able to operate a small pick up truck and salter. Working knowledge of city streets, and must have the ability to operate a street sweeper and a snow plow.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

A valid Commercial Drivers’ License

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. May occasionally be required to assist in the clean-up of hazardous material.

Pay: $41,574.00 - $43,142.23 per year
