JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for coordinating athletic programs and tournaments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinates all activities related to the provision of athletic league programs; sets up computer registration; develops budgets; registers teams and individuals; develops and distributes league schedules; hires and supervises staff; contracts and supervises officials and referees; purchases program supplies; sets-up sports fields for play; arranges and conducts meetings with team captains.
  • Coordinates with volunteer youth associations to provide athletic programs to area youth.
  • Coordinates with renters, youth athletic associations, local schools and other groups for the use of ball fields, the field house and other facilities.
  • Manages, directs and evaluates assigned staff; responds to employee concerns and problems; directs work; evaluates, counsels and disciplines personnel.
  • Maintains records of all facility usage and league program participation; prepares reports as required.
  • Coordinates with Program Coordinators to design and publish recreation program marketing materials, including news releases, brochures, manuals, flyers, posters and signage.
  • Assists in the preparation, maintenance and transportation of city-owned equipment used in city park facilities or for special events.
  • Performs related duties.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Recreation Programs Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include league rules governing sports and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

  • The work consists of varied administrative and program coordination duties. The necessity of coordinating with a variety of stakeholders contributes to the complexity of the work.
  • The purpose of this position is to coordinate the provision of athletic programs and tournaments. Successful performance in this position contributes to the efficient and effective delivery of leisure services to area residents.

  • Contacts are typically with coworkers, other city personnel, volunteers, league representatives, business leaders, sports officials, parents, youth and the general public.
  • Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, provide services, and motivate persons.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color and utilizes the sense of smell.
  • The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

This position has direct supervision over assigned part-time and seasonal personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of experience in athletic program coordination, sports league management, or recreation.
  • Experience in coaching, officiating, or facility management is often preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $26.57 - $33.88 per hour
