Job Summary: The City of Pekin School Bus Department is seeking applicants for part-time school bus drivers during the school year. This position is active during the school year while school is in session, with a split shift guaranteeing a minimum of 3 hours per day.
- Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a school bus on a predetermined route and schedule in a safe and efficient manner.
- Maintain order and discipline among students on the bus, adhering to school district and City of Pekin rules and regulations.
- Perform daily inspections and maintain vehicle maintenance, mileage, trip, and student reports.
- Prepare student conduct and incident reports, as well as accident reports.
- Operate a hydraulic lift.
- Assist in the loading and unloading of physically and mentally handicapped students as necessary.
- Monitor vehicle and equipment operation, reporting malfunctions and repair needs.
- Maintain current certification for CPR and basic first aid training.
- Fuel and clean the exterior and interior of buses, including sweeping and mopping floors, wiping upholstery, picking up debris, and general cleaning daily.
- Utilize two-way radio for bus-to-bus, bus-to-school, and bus-to-base communications.
- Observe applicable local, state, and federal policies, procedures, guidelines, and laws.
Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent, commercial driver's license with school bus permit or ability to receive one, prior responsible work experience, or any combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug testing.
