Recruitment Range: $114,275.20-$132,849.60 annually dependent on knowledge and experience

Minimum Preparation for Work:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree and;
- Six (6) years of pertinent experience in a senior managerial capacity, five (5) of which should be in solid waste.
- Combination of education, training, and/or work experience equal to or higher than the requirements listed above as determined by Human Resources.
Necessary Special Requirements:
- Possession of an appropriate driver license for equipment operated and any license, training or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks.
Nature of Work:
This is highly professional and administrative work as Sanitation Services Director for the City of Pensacola. This includes responsibilities for administration of activities related to Sanitation Services.
The Sanitation Services Director is responsible for organizing, directing and coordinating the activities of the Sanitation Services. Work often involves extensive public contact, often under difficult circumstances, that requires the exercise of considerable tact, diplomacy, initiative and judgment. Work also involves directing and participating in studies that lead to improved operational procedures, manpower utilization, and equipment procurement. Work includes responsibility for preparation and monitoring of the departmental budget, in addition to the formulation of working policy and procedures in accordance with general policy directives of the City Administrator. Supervision is exercised over professional, technical, and clerical staff.

Examples of Work:
- Plans, directs, and coordinates the work of the Sanitation Services Department.
- Prepares budget estimates and controls expenditures of departmental appropriations.
- Remains current on industry best practices to include changes and trends in the field of solid waste collection, disposal and recycling systems.
- Plans and participates in studies and analysis of operating methods, procedures, manpower, and equipment utilization in efforts to improve efficiency and productivity of the operation divisions of the department.
- Formulates policies and procedures.
- Selects personnel for the department, participates in the training and development of personnel, and responsible for various personnel matters (i.e., disciplinary action, etc.) in cooperation with Human Resources.
- Make periodic inspections to assess operational safety concerns and determine the correctional requirements.
- Prepares and maintains technical and administrative operating records and reports.
- Responsible for preparing items for action at City Council meetings, to include developing, and delivering formal presentations to Council.
- Acts as a liaison with Federal, State, local and other agencies.
- Performs related work assigned by the City Administrator.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of administrative procedures and departmental rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances governing the activities of the department including Land Development Code and Code of Ordinances.
- Knowledge of modern management techniques and methods.
