There will be make-up sessions for the POWER test given at a later date.
Also, the Police Department will be offering the opportunity to participate in Mock Interviews after the written examination. This is not mandatory, but would be a great opportunity to practice your interviewing skills. They may be scheduled the week of June 2, 2025. More details to follow.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
Age : Must be 21 years of age by date of the last written exam (05 / 24 / 2025); or 20 years of age for applicants who have successfully completed 2 years of law enforcement studies at an accredited college or university. By State Statute, you cannot have attained age 35 when the application is submitted. (Exceptions made for individuals with prior municipal police experience. Contact the Human Resources Department for additional information).
Education : Graduation from high school or GED equivalent minimum to apply; Applicants with an associate degree or credit hours towards a bachelor's degree is a plus.
Military : A Veteran shall be allowed to exceed the maximum age provision by the number of years served on active military duty, but by no more than 10 years of active military duty. (45 years old) You would need to submit a Form DD214.
Citizenship : Must be a U.S. Citizen or qualified Alien.
Driver's License : Must possess a valid driver's license.
Record : Must agree to be fingerprinted and found not to have been convicted of a felony or certain misdemeanors as listed in Illinois State Statutes.
Vision : Applicants must meet minimum standards for vision and hearing. Applicants who wear glasses or contact lenses must meet minimum standards of visual acuity. Vision with corrective (glasses or contact lenses) lenses should not be less than 20 / 20 in the better eye, 20 / 40 in the worst eye, and 20 / 20 with both eyes open. Uncorrected (no glasses or contact lenses) vision is 20 / 40 and should not be 20 / 200 or worse with either eye.
Residency : Applicants need not be City residents to apply. When hired, employee shall establish and maintain their principal place of residence within a twenty (20) mile radius of the Peoria Police Department and shall not be subject to any forfeiture of the annual base salary.
Physical Requirements : Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position and pass the physical ability exam. Candidates who are hired must pass the physical fitness entrance requirement of the Police Training Institute (Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report) P.O.W.E.R. Test.
Examinations : Must pass written for placement into the Eligibility Pool. If selected for hire, must pass POWER Test, background investigation, oral interview, polygraph, psychological and medical examinations including a drug screen prior to hire.

FINAL PROCEDURES
Applicants who meet all the minimum eligibility requirements and who pass the written examination and POWER test will have their names placed in the Police
Recruit Eligibility Pool, in alphabetical order and will be eligible for hire until the pool expires. Candidates who are being considered for hire will also be required
to participate in a combined interview with department and the Fire and Police Commission. After the oral interview score, the candidate may have added to
the composite score five (5) points if they have established residence in the City of Peoria. This is a rank ordered list of candidates to be hired as positions become
available. When this list is exhausted, interviews will be conducted again by the department and the Fire and Police Commission, and another hire eligibility list will be
made. When the applicants are given an offer of employment, they will then be required to pass the POWER Test, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, a
medical examination including a drug screen and an extensive background investigation. The offer of employment is conditional upon passing all of the required testing
and will be withdrawn if you fail a test.
Once you are in the pool, you can submit, if applicable, a copy of your college diploma and / or transcripts and any other certificates, letters, etc., you want to submit to show your qualifications. Also, send in a photocopy of your DD214 FormIf you are a veteran or are currently serving in the U.S. Military. If you are a current Officer, send in your Law Enforcement training certificate.

PENSION PROGRAM :
Employee Contribution : 9% of Base Salary and longevity
Pension Eligibility : Age 55 with 20 year's service
Disability : 50% of salary - Employer Contribution : City pays all remaining costs
If hired after 04 / 01 / 86, also contributes 1.45% to Medicare only.
VACATION : Less than one year of employment, no paid vacation time.
1 to 5 years of service - 2 Weeks Paid Vacation
After 5 years of Service - 1 additional day per year of service up to a total of 4 weeks at 15 years.
SICK LEAVE : Employees shall accrue sick leave at the rate of 8.00 hours per month of continuous service. Non-probationary employees shall have this additional 1.33 hours monthly accrual deducted from their accrued sick leave balance and contributed directly into the employee's Retirement Health Savings (RHS) Plan. The Employer is authorized to deduct and pay to the Trustee of the Retirement Health Savings (RHS) Plan established for the benefit of the employee, sixteen (16) of these hours of compensation. Upon separation, hours accrued greater than 607 are credited to RHS account.
PERSONAL LEAVE : Accumulated monthly from date of hire.
1 to 5 years of Service - 4 days per year
Over 5 years of Service - 5 days per year
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE : Provides up to 3 days paid bereavement leave.
DUTY RELIEF DAYS : Eight (8) days per year (2 per quarter to be scheduled in conjunction with normal days off).
HOLIDAYS : 10 Paid Holidays per year. (Extra compensation if day off falls on holiday or if scheduled to work on holiday).
LONGEVITY PAY :
5 to 10 Years of Service - 2% of Base Pay

MEDICAL / DENTAL INSURANCE : Coverage effective first day of the next month following completion of one calendar month of employment. Members may opt out of the City's insurance program with proof of other coverage - coverage for dependents is optional. The City of Peoria Health Insurance offers two (2) plan options for coverage. Semi-monthly premiums for employees depend on which plan is selected. On your hire date, you will meet with City's Patient Advocate to receive detailed information on the plans and the appropriate premium cost. Depending on plan selection, you can enroll in Flexible Spending Program (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA).
