The City of Peoria Water Services is seeking candidates for a full-time Utility Plant Operator II position at the Jomax Wastewater Reclamation Facility. This is an exciting opportunity for experienced operators looking to join a dynamic team with opportunities to learn and grow.

We are looking for a candidate with wastewater plant operations experience who is ready to take on advanced-level work and responsibilities. Under general supervision, you will perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to the operation and maintenance of the treatment plant.

Key duties include :

  • Monitoring treatment plant and auxiliary sub-systems, making necessary adjustments.
  • Responding promptly to alarms.
  • Collecting and analyzing water samples.
  • Maintaining daily operational logs and laboratory records to ensure compliance with state regulations.

The ideal candidate for this position will have :

  • Strong skills in mathematics, mechanics, and science.
  • The ability to engage in logical troubleshooting processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • The ability to maintain treatment systems (including piping, pumps, valves, and tanks) and collect field and facility samples.
  • Knowledge of preparing chemical treatments for plant and effluent systems.
  • Proficiency in operating instrumentation and meters for treatment systems.
  • The ability to calibrate, repair, and troubleshoot treatment systems and meters.
  • Expertise in using tools to repair wastewater plant auxiliary systems.
  • The ability to respond to emergencies promptly and effectively.
  • Strong skills in documenting records and observations, as well as reporting issues or lapses in best practices.
  • The ability to maintain vehicles, work areas, and equipment.
  • Initiative to encourage the effective use of technology to improve facility operations.
  • The foresight to initiate changes at the facility to address emerging issues.
  • The ability to engage in continuous quality improvement activities, performance measurement, and benchmarking.
  • The ability to clearly articulate issues, problems, and processes.
  • A demonstrated commitment to plant safety practices, activities, and standards.
  • A drive and enthusiasm for learning and self-improvement.
  • The ability to take direction, collaborate with others, and learn from more experienced peers.
  • A willingness to work outside of normal work hours to support projects or assignments.
  • Flexibility to work off-shift, weekends, and cover shift schedules as needed.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education :

  • High school graduation or equivalency.

    • Experience :

  • 2 years' experience. Considerable previous experience required in the same or similar previous positions.

    • Physical Demands :

  • Work requires heavy physical exertion and effort.

    • Licenses and Certifications :

  • Valid Arizona Class "D" Driver's license upon hire.
  • Candidates must possess an ADEQ Grade III certification or a Grade II certification in Wastewater Treatmentupon hire, with the requirement to achieve a Grade III certification within one year of employment.
