The City of Petoskey now has a vacancy within its Department of Public Works for a full-time Public Works Equipment Operator – Tool Crib Attendant. This position offers a special opportunity for a person having knowledge to perform safe and efficient operation of large and complex automotive, truck, and power-driven equipment along with requisitioning, storage and dispensing tools, parts and materials and performing maintenance and repair of equipment, small engines and tools in a community service position.
Minimum qualifications include: (1) Knowledge of the operations and maintenance requirements of various types of heavy and special automotive, truck, small engines, hand tools, and power-driven equipment; (2) Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, and safety practices involved in the operation of various types of Department of Public Works equipment and tools; (3) Knowledge of the care and maintenance of automotive, truck, hand tools, and power-driven equipment; (4) Ability to operate various types of automotive, truck, hand tools and power-driven equipment with skill and efficiency; (5) Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; (6) Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records; (7) Basic computer skills; (8) Familiarity with streets and principal locations in the City of Petoskey; (9) Mechanical aptitude; (10) Ability to work effectively and efficiently with the public and other employees; (11) Graduation from an accredited high school; (12) Physical agility; (13) Ability to acquire a Michigan Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Group “A” with “N” Tank endorsement; (14) Participation in an on-call pager rotation; and (15) Successful completion of pre-employment medical examination, and drug and alcohol screening.
City employment applications must be submitted by 5:00 P.M., Friday, February 28, 2025. Applicants will be screened based upon applicable qualifications and a small group of finalist candidates will be invited to interview before a panel of City staff members. The Director of Public Works, with approval of the City Manager, will appoint a person to this position.
