- Plans, directs, reviews, and evaluates the staff and functions of the Communications and Marketing Department through effective planning, staff management, resource allocation and effective customer service; manages and directs creative services programs for internal and external communications, including broadcast, digital media, social media presence, and style and branding oversight.
- Serves as a project manager, coordinates design and publication of internal and external communications.
- Provides oversight of City social media accounts. Interacts, and monitors staff interactions, with residents and visitors through the website and social media accounts in a professional and timely manner.
- Drives resident engagement projects and aligns engagement efforts with video and social media campaigns; works with Communications and Marketing team to measure results of engagement and communications campaigns.
- Maintains archives for social media to comply with open records.
- Supports continual improvement in the delivery of customer services and departmental performance. Coordinates internal training on communications, software, media, and other projects as needed.
- Develops and evaluates budget requests, monitors budget expenditures, makes adjustments as necessary, and reports budget information; assist with Communications request for proposals from various vendors who assist with communications functions and engagements.
- Hires, supervises, provides daily coaching, and evaluates Communications and Marketing staff; meets regularly with staff to discuss and resolve technical issues.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Pflugerville and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work- related issues and City information.
- Supports city events and programs with ongoing promotions.
- Serves as a liaison between the Communications Department and the People and Culture Department (P C) and is responsible for the creation, revision, and implementation of internal communications plans in partnership with P C.
- Supports Communications Director and Public Information Officer with communications functions in the Emergency Operations Center and Emergency Events Center when activation occurs.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Formal Education: Bachelor’s degree in public relations, Communications, or a related field. Master’s degree in communications, Public Administration or a similar field is preferred.
Relatable Work Experience: Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in communications with three (3) years of experience in a writing-intensive position and two (2) years of supervisory experience. Experience preferably in government or related function. Demonstrated experience in working with print, broadcast and internet-based media.
Training, Licenses, and Certifications: Valid Texas driver license with driving record that meets City guidelines; Certified Public Communicator is preferred.
