What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Operations Technician position at City of Pflugerville?
Takes explicit direction from Crew Leader and carries out duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, and routines; may exercise moderate independent judgment and initiative. Interacts most frequently with other Public Works personnel; may interact with other City departments and external public on occasion. Assists with the construction, maintenance, and repair of City streets, facilities, and grounds.
- Maintain right of ways, parks and other assigned City grounds; mow, trim, edge, trim trees, pick up litter and other debris.
- Maintain City tools and equipment in safe and effective operating condition; report unsafe or inoperable equipment to department management.
- Maintain City vehicles; clean inside and outside; perform maintenance checks before use; ensure proper storage of vehicles and vehicle keys.
- Performs assigned tasks during emergency situations such as floods, severe weather, and traffic accidents.
- May be assigned temporarily to other departments to provide related support.
- Other duties as assigned.
Formal Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Relatable Work Experience: One (1) year of related work experience.
Training, Licenses, and Certifications: Valid Class C Texas driver’s license.
Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is define as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
Ability to follow verbal and written directions.
Ability to learn about the construction, operation, and maintenance of public works infrastructures.
Good communication (verbal and written) skills.
Ability to effectively and safely operate light trucks, tractors with shredders, lawn tractors, weed eaters, trailers, shop tools, and various hand tools.
Indoor/outdoor year round, as required; extreme weather conditions.
Regularly scheduled for 5-day, 40-hour workweek, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.; some overtime may be required; may be assigned “on-call” for evenings and weekends, as required.
Exposure to potentially hazardous materials.
Strenuous and continuous physical activity, including stooping, kneeling, bending, and digging.
Lifting - up to 85 lbs.
Operation of all departmental vehicles, equipment, and hand tools.
