Department: Code EnforcementSupervisor: Deputy Building OfficialDate Needed: ASAPNumber of Employees Requested: OneWork Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Overtime as neededPosition Status: Full-timeReason Needed: ReplacementJob SummaryUnder general supervision performs various tasks to assist with the operations of the Building Maintenance Division including, but not limited to various carpentry work, obtains necessary materials and supplies. Installs doors and windows. Constructs concrete forms/places concrete, constructs building framing, and installs roofing. Installs and repairs electrical wiring, plumbing fixtures and water heaters. Performs maintenance as needed on all City owned building and performs additional duties in support of the department as needed or upon request. Responsible for picking up, supervising and returning inmates for daily details as needed.Essential Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are normal for this position. Other duties may be required, assigned and expected aside from those set forth below to address operational needs and changing operational practices.Repairs and maintains electrical wiring.Installs and repairs pipe using plumber tools.Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes and water heaters.Paints wall, trim and fixtures.Replaces glass in windows.Obtains and assembles necessary building materials and supplies.Cleans, maintains and repairs building equipment.Assists with or performs related building maintenance tasks.Supervises inmates on work detail for department.Erects framework for walls, partitions and other structural components of buildings, lays flooring, builds or erects rafters and trusses using carpenter hand and power tools.Attaches sheathing or drywall as appropriate.Drive vehicle to pick up inmates, materials and supplies.Perform additional tasks as assigned or upon request.QualificationsEducation & Experience GuidelinesAny combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities required for this position would be: Education/TrainingHigh School Diploma, GED equivalent with experienceExperienceTraining in Carpentry and Plumbing FieldLicenses or Certifications RequiredValid Driver’s License from state of residencyThe following generally describes the knowledge and abilities required in order to successfully perform the assigned duties of the position: Knowledge of: Carpentry materials, methods, tools and equipment.Basic skills in electrical maintenance and plumbing to perform related building maintenance tasks.Various carpentry tools and equipment.Ability to: Comprehend work orders, plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, technical manuals and related materials.Complete forms, work orders, compose narrative reports and similar documents.Explain technical information.Perform duties with moderate supervision.Cooperate with co-workers and work as a member of a team.Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.Physical Demands & Working EnvironmentThe conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
