ABOUT THIS POSITION


The Phoenix Public Works Department, with more than 1,000 employees, is responsible for providing Solid Waste, Facilities Management and Fleet Services citywide.

The Administrative Services Fiscal team is seeking a dedicated accounting professional to perform advanced accounting work, which requires the application of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The Fiscal Services team consists of nine staff members responsible for providing specialized financial and accounting services that support internal and external customers.

The Accountant III is responsible for analyzing financial data and preparing financial reports, coordinating audits, and serves as a professional accounting resource. This position will supervise professional and paraprofessional accounting staff and perform technical accounting work involving reconciling accounts, monitoring spending, and implementing internal controls. This position will assist in managing the department's accounts payables, accounts receivables, rate development, work order cost recovery, assessments, grant management, budgetary and GAAP accounting/reporting.

SALARY


Pay Range: $64,604.80 to $110,510.40 annually.

Hiring Range: $64,604.80 to $95,451.20 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four years of progressively responsible experience as a professional accountant,
  • Including some experience training and supervising paraprofessional and professional accounting personnel.
  • AND Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or public administration or a related field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

Experience with:

  • SAP or similar Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
  • Preparation and posting of accounting journal entries.
  • Researching, analyzing and reconciling financial accounts.
  • Supervising staff, such as hiring and firing; handling disciplinary issues; coaching; and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Accounts Payable and/or Receivable Experience within the last three years.
  • Grant reporting and budgetary expenditure analysis.
  • Governmental budgetary and finance activities.
  • Creating and producing reports in Excel.
