Join our team at the UCR Data Quality Unit of the Phoenix Police Department as a Uniform Crime Reporting Coding Specialist (City job title: Police Coding Clerk). We are looking to fill one critical vacancy, with the potential for additional vacancies.
UCR Crime Coding Specialist read police incident and arrest reports and determine the appropriate federal offense category, collecting and encoding important crime data, sorting and entering codes into various computer databases. UCR Crime Coding Specialist performs related clerical tasks with specific attention to detail. These positions work in cooperation with members of the Crime Analysis and Research Unit to facilitate the identification of crime trends and patterns identified via quality assurance review of crime reports
UCR Crime Coding Specialist utilize knowledge of Arizona Revised Statutes, Uniform Crime Reporting Summary Reporting standards, National Incident-Based Reporting criteria, and police terminology. Candidates must have a strong attention to detail and be able to read documents on a computer screen for extended periods of time. Working shift work, weekends, holidays, and/or variable hours may be required depending on the unit.
Duties include: Reading police crime reports and determining the appropriate federal offense category. Collecting and encoding data. Sorting and entering codes into various computer databases. Performing related clerical tasks with specific attention to detail. Working in the Records Management System (RMS) Data Quality Detail as part of the Strategic Information Bureau.
SALARY
Pay Range: $19.54 to $33.41 per hour.
Hiring Range: $19.54 to $30.31r hour.

Minimum Qualifications
- One year of experience performing specialized clerical work involving the receipt, filing, retrieving, reporting, and processing of records on criminal justice activities.
- All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
- Positions in the Police Department must meet the background standards that are appropriate to non-sworn positions. The general factors for disqualification are listed here .
- Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- Must be able to remain in a sitting position and able to read documents on a computer screen for extended periods of time.
- Incumbents may be required to work weekends, holidays, and/or variable hours. Vacation and shift assignments are determined by seniority.
- Experience with Uniform Crime Reporting Summary Reporting (UCR SRS) Standards and National Incident-Based Reporting System (UCR NIBRS) criteria.
- Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience with Hexagon InPursuit records management system (RMS) client and field-based reporting (FBR) screens.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively read and interpret extensive datasets.
- Proficiency in analyzing police reports with precision and attention to detail.
- Experience working with RMS, FBR or other law enforcement records management and incident reporting systems.
- Knowledge of the Arizona Revised Statutes.
- Familiarity with Police terminology
