Under the administrative supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director, ensure the health and safety of patrons through : careful observation of the pool and surrounding areas; effective response to emergency situations and enforcement of pool safety policies and procedures. Responsible for operating the facility, performing general office duties, and managing staff; also performs pool maintenance functions including checking and maintaining pool equipment (pumps, splash pads, valves, heaters, filters, etc.) and testing and maintaining chemical levels in pool.
General Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION : For purposes of 42 USC 12101 :
50% (1) Responsible for operation, maintenance, and procedures including chemicals, cleaning, backwashing, filtration systems, inventory and implement emergency action plans. Assist with selection and recruitment of staff, in addition to supervise, communicate, schedule, train, evaluate and maintain timesheets for staff. Oversees conflict resolution with patrons. Perform general office work such as : word processing, filing, processing registrations, transfers; maintaining records; generate reports; greet visitors; answer questions by phone, email and in person; following financial procedures; problem solving, providing specific department information, and assessing feasibility and public interest.
35% (2) Maintain required certifications, fitness level, and alertness to any emergency. Scan and monitor all patrons in facility and respond immediately in the event of an emergency according to department procedures, guidelines and standards. Follow procedures for clearing the facility due to inclement weather, emergencies, rest periods, drills, and closing. Perform rescuing, resuscitating, administering first aid activities, accurately completing all documentation as required. Assist in maintaining the facility in a safe and clean matter. Assist in the planning, organizing, and implementing of swim lessons and special events. Required to teach or assist with various levels of swim lessons.
10% (3) Attend all assigned meetings, assist with in-service trainings and inform supervisors of suggestions or ideas that could better the City operation. Enforce safety policies and procedures, and maintains disciplinary action as necessary. Prepare and present content for in-service training(s). Maintain equipment and report problems to supervisor. Inform supervisor of items needing special attention and communicate with staff. Assist in the development of goals and objectives.
4) Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED : The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive :
Personal computer (including software / applications); miscellaneous office equipment; pool equipment (filters, pumps, heaters, skimmers, underwater vacuum system), chemical testing, and hand tools; standard water rescue and first aid equipment (AED, backboard, C-collar, facemask, lifeguard tube, shepherds hook, umbrella, skimmer, whistle, ADA lift, various first aid and cleaning supplies, etc.).
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS : An example of acceptable qualifications :
Must be at least 18 years of age. Enrollment in High School or higher education; or possession of High School Diploma or equivalent (i.e. G.E.D.).
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :
Must be American Red Cross (or equivalent) CPR / AED and First Aid certified; must be able to obtain and maintain licensure as Certified Pool Operator. Certified in American Red Cross (or equivalent) Lifeguarding. Preferred certifications : American Red Cross (or equivalent) Water Safety Instructor; American Red Cross (or equivalent) Lifeguard Instructor.

Knowledge of :
Skill in : customer service; computer operation (including software / applications such as Microsoft Office, recreation management software, etc.); use of digital camera; use of modern office equipment such as printers, etc.; interpersonal communication; organization and time management; spelling, grammar, and mathematics; pool maintenance (including, but not limited to : filters, pumps, heaters, underwater vacuum systems, skimmers, etc.) and chemical testing; use of hand tools; swimming.
INHERENTLY HAZARDOUS OR PHYSICALLY DEMANDING WORKING CONDITIONS :
Employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment as well as aquatic facilities (e.g., chlorine, muriatic acid, toner, correction fluid, etc.); is exposed to possible injury from unclean or unsanitary conditions; works with moving mechanical parts of equipment of machines; is exposed to hot, cold, wet, humid, and windy weather conditions; works in or around crowds; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; sharp objects, needles, and medical instruments; blood, bodily tissues, and fluids; potentially dangerous / fatal infectious diseases; is exposed to possible injury as a result of working with moving mechanical parts of equipment or machines; may work an irregular shift; may work in and around noisy conditions; has exposure to life threatening situations; rescues swimmers in danger of drowning and administers first aid.
Note : In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered light work.
In cases of emergency, unpredictable situations, and / or department needs, may be required to lift, push, pull, and / or carry objects heavier than D.O.L. strength ratings recommend.
