- Organizes tools, equipment and supplies necessary to complete assignments.
- Inspects, cleans and maintains equipment, vehicles, and tools in safe operating order.
- Performs routine inspections of assigned areas to detect any necessary repairs or hazardous conditions.
- Maintains safety regulations including wearing appropriate clothing and using proper equipment and tools.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Functional Area Essential Duties:
Street Technician
- Repairs and maintains City's streets, sidewalks, and curbs; prepares streets for concrete and asphalt patches; sets up proper barricades and traffic control at work sites to warn traffic of work hazards.
- Operates trucks (heavy equipment); loads, hauls, and unloads dirt, sand, asphalt, and other materials.
- Cuts, collects, and disposes of tree limbs, weeds, trash, litter, debris, and bulk items.
- Assists with sidewalk markings, street signs, and streetlights.
- Sands streets and participate in ice control activities.
- Inspects work in progress and at completion for compliance with applicable policies, procedures, plans, specifications, and standards of quality and safety.
- Monitors employees operating equipment to prevent damage to other utility lines while digging.
- Assist with crack seal operations.
- Assist with all asphalt finishing hand tools.
- Assist with filling potholes with hot mix asphalt.
- Assist with pavement reconstruction and repairs.
- Assist with setting up forms and rebar.
- Assists crew members with small hand tools like shovels and concrete rakes.
- Answers emergency calls from the public and other agencies taking appropriate action such as storm drain blockage, pavement failure, and other repairs to the components of the roadway system.
- Collect debris from streets, greenbelts, right of ways, underpasses/overpasses and remove graffiti within City's limits.
- Completes work orders on daily work assignments and activities as required.
- Assist with shooting elevations.
- Assist with setting up forms and rebar.
- Assist crew members with small hand tools.
- Carries small debris from areas like creeks and lakes.
- Answers emergency calls from the public and other agencies taking appropriate action such as storm drain blockage, pavement failure, and other repairs to the components of the roadway system.
- Collect debris from streets, greenbelts, right of ways, underpasses/overpasses and remove graffiti within City's limits.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
- Knowledge of general maintenance and repair techniques for common tools and equipment used in general construction and maintenance work, and their basic safety precautions and procedures.
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of power and hand tools.
- Knowledge of safe handling techniques of hazardous chemicals and materials.
- Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
- Skill in following oral and written communications and directions.
- Skill in planning and organizing materials and supplies necessary to complete work orders or daily assignments.
- Skill in operating assigned equipment, tools and vehicles
- Skill in resolving customer complaints and concerns.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and a criminal background check
- Texas Class C Driver License
Preferences:
- Streets Maintenance Worker Qualifications:
- Entry Level and No Experience Required.
- Texas Class C driver's license
- Work is performed in an outdoor environment.
- May be subject to repetitive motion and heavy manual labor such as digging, repairing water/sewer lines, transporting, delivering and picking up debris, or other required equipment.
- Daily physical labor that includes extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, entering enclosed spaces, climbing ladders, lifting heavy equipment, digging potholes, swinging a sledgehammer, driving a dump truck, operating other equipment and other similar physically exerting activities on a daily basis.
- May be exposed to moving traffic, extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, fumes, heights, confined spaces, trenches, air and water borne pathogens, body fluids, infectious diseases, rodents and insects.
- May be confined to small spaces
Equipment And Tools Utilized:
- Equipment utilized includes personal computer, (Microsoft Office), copier, calculator, fax machine, and telephone and City vehicles.
- Other equipment utilized includes sledgehammer, shovel, dump truck, hand/power tools and equipment specific to area of assignment, ladders, testing equipment, generators, water pumps, and other industry related tools and equipment.
