JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, maintains general control over the permitting process in accordance with the City Code and ordinances for the City of Pinellas Park or contract work with Kenneth City and provides inspection services.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must obtain provisional state certification for Building Plans Examiner and Building Inspector within three (3) months from date of hire.
- Must obtain standard state certification for Building Plans Examiner and Building Inspector prior to expiration of provisional certifications.
- Must have five (5) years experience in the construction industry.
- Requires a valid Florida driver license.
- Requires travel throughout the City (approximately 70% of the time) and work within an office environment (approximately 30% of the time).
- Work involves a moderate amount of physical effort; regularly required to reach, bend, pull and lift/carry objects up to 25 pounds without assistance.
- On occasion work requires stooping, kneeling, and climbing.
EXAMPLES OF TASKS:
- Reviews construction blueprints and drawings for commercial and residential construction; interprets and applies codes relating to building, engineering, zoning, governmental regulations and Life Safety; coordinates reviews with other City agencies and divisions; prepares a variety of reports, documents and correspondence relating to building permits and code compliance; performs onsite inspections for code compliance.
- Consults and relays both oral and written results to contractors for proper corrections of code violations.
- Corresponds with engineers, architects, contractors and building owners concerning questions related to plan reviews; checks construction documents to ensure conformance with minimum code requirements.
- Gathers and analyzes information to make a flood zone determination; permits simple applications including entering all information into the computer system; checks the contractors’ certifications and licenses and prepares the documents to completion for permits; reviews projects at the front counter; helps customers with questions related to building, renovations and prepares project to receive permit.

- May be required to provide professional guidance in the protection and enhancement of the City’s urban forest pertaining to proper management, selection, planting, and maintenance of trees; administers those sections of the City Land Development Code pertaining to the specific area of inspection specialty; inspects installations to assure safety and compliance.
