JOIN OUR TEAM! The Pismo Beach Police Department is seeking highly qualified individual(s) to join our team. We are looking for person(s) with high energy, who are innovative and progressive thinking, who demonstrate self-initiative and leadership potential, and who have high personal standards. The candidate(s) selected will be sponsored to attend the 21 week program at the Allan Hancock Law Enforcement Academy that will begin July 2025. About the City: The City of Pismo Beach is located along seven miles of scenic central pacific coastline in San Luis Obispo County. Powdery sand beaches, fine restaurants and luxurious resort hotels, quaint shopping and an outlet mall, close access to award-winning wineries along with a temperate marine climate all draw visitors to Pismo Beach. As such, the police department practices a unique form of tourism-oriented policing. The resident population of Pismo Beach is approximately 8,000; however, the city's population can reach between 25,000 and 50,000 on any given weekend. The city hosts several annual special events such as the Car Show and Fourth of July Fireworks, which draw crowds of up to 100,000 people. Police services during these seasonal influxes require careful planning and allocation of resources. There is a special event hosted almost every weekend throughout the entire year in Pismo Beach. Job Summary: Under close instruction and supervision, attends and participates in a Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certified police academy, participating in and passing all required classes. Receives basic law enforcement training regarding various laws, police procedures, law enforcement techniques, first aid, and physical fitness. Upon successful completion of the academy, this classification becomes a Police Reserve or probationary Entry–Level Police Officer.PELLET B and PAT Test will be held March 1, 2025.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job. Attends P.O.S.T. certified police academy, participating in and successfully passing all mandated and required classes designated to develop awareness and understanding of the functions and responsibilities of Police Officers. Academy training may include, but is not limited to following: instruction on proper handling and firing of firearms; review of radio codes and applicable Penal Code, Vehicle Code and other statutory code sections; overview of the court system; writing and editing police reports; observing law enforcement activities such as maintenance of order, crime prevention, and protection of citizens and property; review of rules, regulations, and procedures; developing and maintaining high level of physical fitness; learning and demonstrating competence in arrest and control techniques; and performs other duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
EDUCATION: Graduation from high school or a G.E.D. EXPERIENCE: Experience in a law enforcement environment desirable OR any combination of education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities to meet the above minimum requirements. LICENSE: Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver License. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record and be insurable to operate City vehicles.
