The Recreation Department presents programs and services including aquatics and youth sports, the Senior Center, and Small World Park to over 50,000 participants. The City of Pittsburg is a full-service city following the council-manager form of government. Examples of Duties
- Provides direct supervision for site staff in accordance with applicable laws and policies to include hiring, training, assignment, scheduling, performance evaluation, and problem resolution.
- Oversees and coordinates various operations, services, and activities of an assigned recreation program including citywide cultural arts, sports and athletics, outdoor and waterfront recreation services, senior services, and youth development or special City events. Includes program development, implementation, problem solving, program evaluation, public relations.
- Ensures a clean, safe and orderly program environment by monitoring the condition of the facilities and notifying the Recreation Supervisor of required repairs or replacement of equipment and the cleaning of program areas.
- Monitors site budget of various programs and ensures the timely preparation of required reports.
- May be responsible for the maintenance and ordering of supplies.
- Record and monitor all financial transactions associated with the collection of fees.
- Confers with the Recreation Supervisor on the status of program goals and objectives, operational matters and problem areas.
- May assist in development of informational sheets, forms and newsletter articles.
- Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies, City management and staff, and the public.
- Works a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Qualifications
Education: Qualified applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED and supplemental coursework in the field of recreation services or equivalent.
Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible experience in the conduct of recreation or leisure activities.
Substitution for Experience: An associate's degree in Recreation or related field may substitute experience.
License: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver's license and proof of auto liability insurance is required.
Qualified applicants must also possess:
Knowledge of: Principals and practices of personnel management, budget development, administration and evaluation; and applicable federal, state and local laws, codes, and regulations.
Ability to: Coordinate, organize and implement childcare, recreation and leisure time activities; maintain a program in compliance with State Licensing Requirements (for youth services); maintain detailed records and complete state mandated reports; work cooperatively with others; operate standard office equipment; effective communication skills both oral and written.
