Successful candidates will possess the following:
- Previous three years of experience as a lifeguard and pool instruction
- Knowledge of pool operations, safety protocols, and program coordination
- Ability to ensure a safe and fun experience for participants in programs
- Creative, energetic, and enthusiastic personality
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Positive attitude and able to communicate to members of the public, parents, and staff and address any inquiries and provide a high-quality experience for all.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in scheduling software and basic computer applications
- Handle rental fees for facilities
- Possession of a Water Safety Instructor certification
- Certification as a Certified Pool Operator
- Possession of a CPR and First Aid certification
The Recreation Department provides programs and services that enhance the quality of life for the Pittsburg community through the following:
- Youth and Young Adult Services: variety of programs for youth and young adults including job readiness, employment opportunities, wellness, and arts and community.
- Sports: variety of recreation sports leagues, camps and clinics for youth and adults and responsible for field rentals and usage.
- Small World Park: daily operations of children's amusement park that is open weekends only in the spring/fall and four days a week during the summer.
- Aquatics: operation of aquatic center including recreation and lap swim, classes, and programs and rentals.
- Senior Center: various activities and programs for residents, ages 50 to include exercise programs, financial counseling, crafts, special excursions, health management, social events, meals, and wellness.

The City of Pittsburg is a full-service city following the council-manager form of government. We have about 300 full time employees and about 350 employees total (depending on the season).
Examples of Duties
Responsible for seasonal operation of Swim Center including:
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise lifeguards, instructors, and other pool staff\; monitor staff performance and provide coaching as needed.
- Enforce all safety rules, regulations, and emergency procedures to ensure the well-being of patrons and staff.
- Conduct inspections as needed to ensure facility is properly maintain and schedule repairs as needed.
- Preparing records and reports as needed to keep track of usage for budget and program management.
- Preparing deposits, ordering supplies, stocking and setting snack bar prices,
- Develop, manage, and oversee swimming lessons, aquatic programs, rentals, and special events.
- Address customer inquiries and resolve complaints for all pool users.
- Keeping records on employee certifications.
- Providing excellent customer service in the context of applying and enforcing rules and regulations that govern the health, safety and welfare of patrons.
Selection Process

4. New Hire Paperwork: After completion of the background/pre-employment process, successful candidates will complete new hire paperwork and begin work soon after.
- Police Trainee receives medical, dental, sick leave and retirement benefits while in the Police Academy.
- Other seasonal employees receive sick leave and are limited to 999 hours per fiscal year.
