- WORK EXPERIENCE: We will consider applicants who have passed the bar and completed law school, but without work experience. Preference will go to candidates with two (2) or more years of full-time, paid experience, with preference for transactional experience or experience representing local government entities and/or handling municipal matters. (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
- EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a Juris Doctorate Degree. An active, current Pennsylvania license will be required before the end of probation. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training.)
- Must provide a sample brief or legal memorandum - please attach to your application prior to submission.
- EQUIVALENCY: None permitted for this position. Therefore, no education/training and/or work experience may be substituted toward the qualifying requirements listed above.

- Serves as the Right to Know attorney for the City, and handles all legal filings and appeals associate with that role.
- Supervises the Right to Know staff.
- Serves as legal advisor to City officials, management, and staff as assigned by the City Solicitor.
- Researches and prepares memorandum opinions on a wide variety of municipal issues including the First Amendment, procurement, Home Rule Charter and Optional Plans Law authority, zoning, contracts, statutory interpretation, and real property.
- Reviews rules, policies, plans, and forms prepared by other City departments for compliance with applicable laws.
- Researches legal issues and prepares legal memoranda and correspondence.
- Maintains and develops expertise about laws, regulations, and court decisions affecting municipal legal issues.
- Plans and researches legal matters related to statutes, rules, City Charter and Code, and established laws and policies.
- May be assigned new, additional, or different duties or practice areas, including in litigation or employment/labor.
- Performs activities, functions, and other related tasks and duties as assigned or required by the City Solicitor.
