Qualifying Requirements:
Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.
- WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show one (1) year of full-time experience in recreation programming, curriculum implementation, teaching, or a related field. (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis).
- EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show an Associate's Degree from a fully accredited institution in Education, Social Service, Recreation, Community Recreation, Leisure Studies, Theater Arts or a related field. A Teaching Certification is a plus. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).
- EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or related work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above). The Total Qualifying Requirement is three (3) years. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training).

- Assists in the planning, development and implementation of approved recreation center programming. These activities include physical, leisure and non-physical activities, but are not limited to physical and leisure activities, organized sports, afterschool educational programming, non-physical activities, food/meal service, social activities, music, and fine arts and crafts, to meet the needs of our constituency within the City, the Recreation/Community Center and Park Facilities.
- Demonstrates excellence in customer service.
- Assists with city-wide special events as assigned.
- Assists with overseeing daily activities and participants while maintaining structured and organized programs, preventing accidents/incidents and responding to emergency situations.
- Assists with the implementation of Citiparks youth programs such as summer camps, afterschool, and Rec2Tech.
- Assists with the distribution of afterschool and summer meals and secures the required ServSafe Food certifications/certificates.
- Performs daily janitorial and maintenance activity and adheres to City/County code requirements.
- Reports all accidental injuries occurring at recreation center in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Provides a safe and secure environment for youth and adult members and enforces the Citiparks center rules to ensure member safety.
- Acts as a liaison with community organizations regarding approved programs and/or events; works collaboratively with community schools, interest groups and sponsors to develop programs that result in stronger community development and networks.
- May direct the work of and provide technical assistance to part-time volunteers and/or seasonal personnel as assigned.
- Participates in professional development and training programs, including but not limited to: CPR, AED, and First Aid.
- Ensures that duties are performed in accordance with established City, County, state and/or federal laws, rules, and regulations.
- Submits requisitions for equipment needs and reports property damage and/or maintenance problems in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Administers cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid to victims in distress as needed.
- Assists in the maintenance and development of the recreation center program and scheduling/permit calendar.
- Assists in the handling and logging of program revenues and expenditures as needed.
- Plans, develops, directs, coordinates, organizes, and controls the materials, equipment, and personnel under jurisdiction toward the effective, efficient and economical attainment of program goals, including maximum convenience to the public and safety of employees.
- Manages area of responsibility in strict accordance with applicable laws, regulations and established policy including union agreements to ensure fair and standardized treatment of employees.
- Performs activities and functions of personnel as needed and performs related tasks and duties as requested.
