JOB TITLE: IT SUPPORT SPECIALIST II

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the IT Support Specialist II is responsible for maintaining, supporting, and administering the City of Pittsfield’s production systems. This includes servers, network hardware, backup systems, cloud platforms such as Microsoft 365, and Microsoft enterprise platforms such as Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, and Hyper-V.
The IT Support Specialist II must approach this role from a customer service focus, and should consider their coworkers as being their customers. As such, technical knowledge, responsiveness, and interpersonal skills are each critical elements of success in this position.

Responsibilities
The work environment is typical of an office, but may also include working in industrial environments such as mechanic’s garages as well as in the outdoors. While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is required to: interact and communicate frequently with the public, government officials, other staff members, and/or third parties transacting business with the City. Travel to other City locations is required. Periodic work may be required outside normal working hours to accomplish job responsibilities and avoid disruption to City operations.

To perform the essential functions of the job, the employee must be able to perform the following: Stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, repetitive motions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Light physical labor, including lifting objects up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities
- Configure, install, and manage network switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points, and other network devices.
- Resolve LAN / WAN connectivity issues.
- Administration of Microsoft 365 and other cloud platforms.
- Administration of Active Directory.
- Administration of Windows Server including;
- Exchange
- SharePoint
- Hyper-V
- Failover Clustering
- Administration of on premise and cloud based backup system, email archiver, and email security system.
- Responsible for IT Security including;
- Patch management
- Group Policy planning
- Vulnerability assessment scanning
- Antivirus administration
- Written security policy planning
- Administration of facilities security systems.
- Processing of public records requests.
- Creates and maintains system documentation, e.g. network diagrams.
- Manage help desk system (monitor for and respond to help desk tickets as they are submitted by end users.)
- Provide end user support.
- May perform in a supervisory capacity during the absence of the CIO.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
- At least seven (7) years of full-time experience in an IT support-related field as a System Administrator, Network Administrator, or other similar position.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information systems is preferred.
- Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Preference will be given to candidates who possess a CCNA, CISSP, CEH, or Microsoft enterprise certifications.
- Expertise with Microsoft 365 administration.
- Expertise with Active Directory administration.
- Expertise with Windows Server administration including Exchange, SharePoint, Hyper-V, and Failover Clustering
- Expertise with network support and design including routing, VLANs, ACL’s, and firewall configuration and management.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Visio
- Willingness and ability to learn new technologies and take on additional responsibilities as required by the position.
- Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to handle problems effectively in response to day-to-day crises in calm and professional manner; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to work independently; ability to deal appropriately with City employees, City officials, vendors, and general public.
