JOB TITLE: WATER/SEWER MAINTENANCE LABORER
DEPARTMENT: DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC UTILITIES – WATER/SEWER DIVISION
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: FULL-TIME/NON-EXEMPT
UNION/NON-UNION: TEAMSTERS LOCAL #404
The Water/Sewer Maintenance Laborer helps maintain water/sewer infrastructure with tasks including mowing/brush cutting, snow removal, sanding/salting, and any other required tasks to maintain access to various water/sewer entry points throughout the city. Incumbent will also assist with seasonal hydrant flushing and painting, work with construction crew on water, sewer, and drain repairs.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible to maintain access points to all water and sewer infrastructure throughout the system including sewer siphons, water tanks, reservoirs, pump/lift stations. Tasks would include mowing, brush cutting, down tree removal, plow/sanding, maintenance of drainage around storage tanks and along access roads.
- Assists construction crews with water, sewer, and drain system repairs.
- Assists with hydrant flushing program and seasonal hydrant painting.
- Assists with sewer and drainage structure replacements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Candidate must be eighteen years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years acceptable experience in construction and or related labor fields
- Valid Class D driver’s license
- Ability to interact with people on an up-beat and friendly basis regardless of circumstances.
WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of the Water/Sewer Maintenance Laborer, the incumbent is required to: interact and communicate frequently with the public, government officials, other staff members and boards, and/or third parties transacting business with the City. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather. Incumbent will be required to be available to respond to emergencies on a 24 hour a day basis.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to climb ladders and enter utility holes, access ways & underground vaults, walk long distances over uneven terrain, lift 50 lbs. from ground to chest height in a standing position, and work outdoors during all seasons.
HOURS
Monday – Friday, 7:00AM – 3:30PM
(Incumbent shall be required to work any time during the 24 hour day to respond to weather related/emergency needs)
SALARY
Starting rate $18.52 - $19.65 per hour
Annual increases up to $25.64 per hour
