Job Description Summary
Under general supervision greets customers and inspects vehicles for waste type prior to entry to the City landfill; directs customers to the appropriate location and prepares billings.
Job Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Greets and weighs vehicles;directs customers to dumping site based on MSW type; prepares weight ticket; bills customers.
- Answers incoming phone calls.
- Prints daily reports.
- Balances the cash drawer.
- Delivers money and checks to the City’s Finance Department.
- Dispatches co-workers and/or the Landfill Foreman to job sites.
- Maintains the office area.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Plainview and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Knowledge:
- City policies and procedures.
- Landfill operations.
- Customer Service principles and practices.
- MSW and material types.
- Cashiering procedures.
- Basic bookkeeping.
Skill in:
- Multi-tasking
- Handling customer payments accurately and efficiently.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other City staff and customers.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
- Using a personal computer and various software applications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent; AND one year of customer service experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed both in an indoor and outdoor work environment. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 10 pounds.Advertisement
