Description

This is a non-exempt position which is technical supervisory work in the operation and mechanical maintenance of a water treatment plant.
Employee receives general supervision from the Water Treatment Operations Superintendent, however, employee must exercise considerable independent judgment in the execution of assigned duties, and may assume the responsibilities of the Water Plant Operations Superintendent during his / her absence.
Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.
Examples of Duties
Responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily operation of the water treatment plant.
Supervises and participates in the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant.
Prepares work schedules, assigns employees to specific tasks and ensure safety standards are enforced.
Assists operation superintendent in ongoing program development and evaluation of potential problems, as it relates to the water plant.
This is an essential position; employee is required to work extended hours during and after any declared emergencies.
Prepares daily and monthly reports on the operations, chemicals used in the purification or treatment process, mechanical and electrical repair work performed, and employee hours worked.
Inventories chemicals and parts and prepares requisitions for supplies to be ordered through the Utilities purchasing section.
Responsible for monitoring, reporting and ensuring corrective measures are taken for equipment malfunction.
Ensure all operational problems are resolved using established procedures.
Performs routine and special chemical tests on the purification processes.
This position does not have final procurement authority.
Performs some administrative duties as instructed by superintendent.
Typical Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of method and practices of membrane water treatment operations.
Considerable knowledge of health and safety factors in operating plant equipment.
Knowledge of the mechanical and electrical equipment and maintenance procedures.
Ability to inspect equipment and maintenance procedures.
Assists in preparation of the budget.
Minimum working proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel, and File Manipulation.
Ability to inspect equipment in operation, detect changes in conditions, and make necessary adjustments or general repairs.
Ability to plan, layout and assist in supervision of plant operation and maintenance work; maintain operating records and assist in preparation of reports.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, department officials and other City employees.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from a standard high school. Minimum five (5) years of experience in the operation of a membrane water purification plant and possession of a State of Florida Class "A" Water Treatment Plant Operator's license required.
Work Environment
This is a designated "Response" classification in the City's Emergency Operations Plan and will require the employee occupying this position to work for declared emergencies. Attendance at National Incident Management System (NIMS) training at the appropriate level is mandatory.
