This is a non-exempt position, which is manual labor and supervisory work over a crew of skilled and unskilled workers performing a variety of manual tasks. An employee in this classification is responsible for the crew and that assigned tasks are performed properly and efficiently, and that work schedules are maintained. Work is received from a superior in the form of specific assignments and is reviewed in progress and upon completion.Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause. Examples of Duties Supervises and participates in landscaping, planting, mowing, watering, spraying, cleaning and trimming of municipal parks and grounds, planting trees and shrubbery, operating equipment necessary in completing assigned tasks. Inspects work in progress, modify or adjust work schedule and related factors to insure that projects are completed. Supervises and trains crews in field, resolve complaints, operate various types of equipment, perform maintenance tasks. Maintains records and submits reports on the status of work projects. Requisitions materials, tools, equipment and supplies and inspects upon receipt. Executes purchase orders authorized by the department director. Supervises and participates in the lining of playing fields, drag, water, weed and maintain sport facilities. Supervises and participates in the repairs and maintenance of playground equipment to maintain in a proper operating condition. Exercises care and safety in the use of equipment and tools required to complete assigned tasks. Performs related work as required and as directed. This position does not have final procurement authority. Performs any assigned duty before, during and after a declared emergency. Typical Qualifications Thorough knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools and equipment used in ground maintenance, landscape maintenance and new installation. Knowledge of occupational hazards and of safety precautions required to prevent accidents and injuries. Horticultural and nursery knowledge with landscape maintenance, new installation and tree trimming experience, if position requires. Ability to work a flexible work schedule, to include weekends, holidays and evenings, as necessary, to meet the division's needs. Ability to recognize what tools and equipment are needed on a job site. Ability to supervise employees in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale. Ability to operate a City vehicle and possess the required license. Ability to adhere to tight schedules and still maintain work quality. Ability to compile and maintain accurate records and make comprehensive reports. Ability to assist in evaluation of crew members and to write incident and accident reports and requisitions. Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under hot and humid conditions. Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks to municipal property. Ability to understand and follow instructions and to complete work assignments correctly. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, Department officials and the general public. Skilled in the use of hand and power tools applicable to work assigned. DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Have successfully graduated from a standard high school or trade school or possess an acceptable GED Certificate. Considerable experience in landscape, construction, ground maintenance and repair work or other related fields, which relates to position assignment. Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered.LiveScan ProcessIncumbents in this job class are required to undergo a Level 2 Background Screening as required by the State of Florida.
