The Building Maintenance Worker at the Plymouth Ice Center will perform and/or assist skilled, corrective, and preventive maintenance at the ice arena, associated structures and grounds, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, doors, and equipment. This position will complete routine tasks necessary for the daily operation of the ice arena that includes ice resurfacing.

Essential Functions
Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
- Interact with others in a manner that is professional and inspires open communication.
- Help to create and maintain a respectful workplace culture and champions diversity and inclusion.
- Participate in citywide training designed to strengthen competencies in areas such as communications, leadership, decision-making and problem solving.
Perform routine operational functions and maintenance at the Ice Arena.
- Support the opening and closing of ice arena.
- Remove snow and perform ice control from entryways, parking lots, sidewalks, as needed.
- Monitor cleanliness in all areas, and perform light janitorial duties as needed, supporting contracted services; maintain cleanliness of mechanical and storage spaces.
- Perform maintenance and repairs throughout arena.
- Order parts as necessary.
- Move furniture and equipment, as requested.
- Inform Operations Supervisor of contractor needed repairs, needed supplies and product.
- Paint areas of the building when needed.
Use preventative maintenance program for ice arena, including mechanical and electrical systems.
- Input data into computerized maintenance management system.
- Track internal service orders and focuses on constantly improving customer service.
- Assist in the management and facilitation of contracted work.
Operate, maintain and make or assist in repairs to HVAC and other systems.
- Check, maintain and operate hot water and boilers.
- Maintain proper chemical levels in refrigeration and cooling equipment.
- Change filters in HVAC systems on schedule.
- Maintain and repair motor-driver units.
- Change filters on all water systems, ice makers, water coolers etc.
Prepares and maintains ice surfaces.
- Operates and maintains ice resurfacer to achieve high quality, consistent skating surface and machine operation.
- Edges, shaves, and resurfaces ice as needed for best facility operation.
Perform a variety of preventative and routine maintenance and repair work within the ice arena including, but not limited to:
- Repair/replace water circulation pumps.
- Repair all faucets, toilets and drains.
- Perform painting.
- Perform minor lock repair.
- Repair doors and shelves; perform other minor carpentry work such as fixing chairs and desks.
- Perform authorized electrical work.
- Perform ice arena and grounds inspections.
- Maintain and track preventative maintenance and inspection requirements.
Assist with operating and testing of emergency generators and transfer switches.
Identify faulty equipment, plumbing, electrical, elevator, roofs and furnishings and repairs or reports to Operations Supervisor.
Perform all OSHA required inspections, i.e., fire extinguishers and eye washes.
Perform other duties as apparent or assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Six months building maintenance experience or equivalent.
- Valid Minnesota Class D driver's license with a good driving record.
Desired Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to perform in accordance with the City of Plymouth’s CIVIC values (customer focus, integrity, visionary, inclusion, and connection) and comfort with supporting and advancing the city council’s strategic priorities.
- Two-year technical school certificate in a related area.
- Two years of experience as an electrician
- Two years of relevant experience related to the maintenance of systems used in an ice arena or other related facility maintenance.
- Certified Ice Technician certificate (CIT)
- Knowledge of safety procedures and OSHA requirements.
- Knowledge of appliance repair.
- Ability to read building blueprints.
- Ability to read electrical schematics.
- Ability to make sound decisions and independent judgements on projects assigned; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, as well as to communicate effectively orally; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, other employees and the public.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Physical activities such as standing, walking, lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying, bending at waist, reaching (extending hands and arms in any direction), handling objects (grasping, turning or otherwise using hands or hand), climbing, kneeling (bending leg at knee and resting on knee), crouching (moving about on hands and knees), use of arm muscles over extended periods, use of leg muscles over extended periods, overhead work (over shoulder height), repetitive hand motion are usually required to perform functions of the position.
- The employee must be able to lift/carry items from 0 – 74 pounds. Items lifted/carried include boxes of paper, bags of salt, tools, furniture, chairs. The employee must be able to shovel snow.
- This position requires working outdoors and indoors, both in cold environments, operating hand and power tools, walk behind snow removal equipment, ice resrufacers, machinery, or vehicles; wearing/using respirators and other required safety equipment; driving a city vehicle or a personal vehicle to perform functions of the position.
