In this role, you'll oversee community centers or manage specific programs, ensuring their success, meeting goals, and fulfilling deadlines. Work under the guidance of the Recreation Coordinator and alongside a supportive team, including the Community Services Specialist III.

This is an at-will, part-time position without benefits, requiring an average commitment of 20 hours weekly, capped annually at less than 1,000 hours.

Assignment and Work Schedule Overview

This part-time role offers approximately 15-20 hours per week, with schedules adapted to each program's unique needs, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Available programs to part-time staff:
 
After School Programs:
  • Role: Directly oversee after-school sites or program areas, ensuring goals and community needs are met.
  • Typical Schedule: Monday to Friday, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
Sports Programs:
  • Role: Supervise youth sports leagues, clinics, and outdoor activities.
  • Typical Schedule: Monday to Friday, 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm. 
Art Programs:
  • Role: Support the development and implementation of engaging, diverse art programs for youth.
  • Typical Schedule: Monday to Friday, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
STEM Programs:
  • Role: Facilitate STEM programs that ignite youth interest in science, technology, engineering, and math.
  • Typical Schedule: Monday to Friday, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm.
Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency required.
  • One (1) year of paid or volunteer experience in a recreational field. Coursework in the fields of kinesiology, math, science, and language arts is highly desirable.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California Class "C" driver's license and have a good driving record.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Plan, supervise and implement community-based recreation and enrichment programs, monthly goals and objectives, calendar of activities, daily schedule, curriculum, and snack at designated program areas.
  • Schedules and maintains centralized calendar of all activities occurring at designated program.
  • Coordinate daily program operations including program planning and general upkeep of site and equipment.
  • Conducts and/or attends regular meetings and training sessions that directly affect the development, planning, coordination and implementation of program area.
  • Lead community outreach efforts at designated program to raise awareness and increase and retain community involvement.
  • Provide direction and guidance to site staff (CSS1), volunteers and youth employees. Monitor staff schedules, arrivals and departures and absences.
  • Administrative duties including, but not limited to; attendance, monthly summaries, enrollment, and timecards.
  • Work collaboratively to develop and foster new programs and best practices throughout all site locations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of staff trainings.
  • Meet deadlines while maintaining high quality of work.
  • Support other program areas as needed.
  • Ensure established emergency and safety procedures are followed at all times.
  • Accurately document all incidents/accidents and ensure proper communication to all parties as appropriate.
  • Communicate in a positive and effective manner with all participants, City officials, parents, community members, co-workers and volunteers.
  • Maintain professional demeanor at all times to ensure the City's image and core values are upheld.
  • Assist in implementation of Department and Citywide events.
  • Ensure constant and consistent supervision of all participants, ensuring their guidance and safety.
  • Maintain a program that is welcoming and conducive to youth activities.
  • Assist in youth recruitment, outreach and promotion, enrollment, attendance maintenance/monitoring and tracking.
  • Assist in snack or meal preparation and/or distribution.
  • Support other program areas as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
