What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fire Inspector #2025-047 position at City of Pompano Beach?
Inspection of building premises & structure for fire hazards and conformance with Fire Prevention Ordinances. Plan Review. Preparation and presentation of reports and studies. Assist in the investigation of fires to determine their source and cause. Performs Firefighter duties if necessary. Performs other related work as required. Must possess a valid State of Florida certification as an EMT or Paramedic; a State of Florida Firefighter certification; a State of Florida Fire Inspector Certification; a Fire Inspector certification by the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals; a Florida Driver’s License; a CPR or ACLS card; and EVOC certificate. Vision must be no worse than 20/40 in one eye and 20/100 in the other eye; must be correctable to no worse than 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other eye. No defect or abnormality of hearing. Must be a non-user of tobacco products for at least one year immediately preceding application (FL Statutes, Section 633.412(6)). High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in the fire rescue field is preferred, especially in fire prevention. Must have experience in clerical work including computer skills. Knowledge of the principles of modern fire inspection, prevention and investigative techniques. Basic understanding of supervised fire alarm circuits, standpipe and sprinkler installations. Thorough understanding and ability to interpret the Florida Fire Prevention Code. Ability to work from blueprints, plans and specifications. Ability to effectively communicate with the general public. Ability to apply fire safety codes and ordinances, and to effectively enforce all regulations. Ability to speak and write effectively. Ability to compile and submit clear and concise reports. Ability to work well without continuous supervision. Ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Sedentary work when performing administrative functions to physical work with the ability to perform frequent heavy moving over 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs. at the sites. Work involves climbing, kneeling, balancing, crouching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling and grasping. The noise level in this environment can be loud at inspection sites. Exposure to hazards such as extreme heat/cold, machinery, electricity, chemicals, fumes, gases, odors, sewage, dusts and adverse weather conditions. Pre-hire testing will include Firefighter physical, polygraph, and psychological exams. Additional pay of 17% for Paramedic certification or 7% for EMT certification upon completion of the City of Pompano Beach's training program.
